Hedra vs HeyGen

By Alexandre S. Published Last checked What changed

Verdict: Hedra or HeyGen

For presenter ads under terms that name advertising, HeyGen; for character or mascot clips, Hedra, whose live terms say nothing on ads (checked ).

Hedra labels every paid plan “Commercial use”. Its live terms (4 September 2026) no longer link the October 2024 PDF, whose 3.6(F) bars advertising without Hedra’s prior written consent. The live terms do not say whether 3.6(F) still applies.

Thirty seconds of HeyGen’s photo-avatar model, as each vendor names it, costs $3.00 at Hedra’s per-second rate. On HeyGen Creator ($29 a month) it costs $0.39, if every credit is used.

HeyGen

Best for
Localising one ad script into many languages, cheap avatar minutes for talking-head ads, and founder or spokesperson clones on a paid plan.
Not for

What does 30 seconds of HeyGen’s photo-avatar model cost on each?

On Hedra it costs $3.00 at Hedra’s published rate; on HeyGen Creator, $0.39 pro rata, if every credit is used.

Hedra’s HeyGen alternative page lists “heygen-photo-avatar-4” at “10¢/s · up to 1080p” (read 2 October 2026). HeyGen’s credits article prices its Avatar IV Photo Look at 16 credits a minute. Each vendor names the model its own way, and neither page says the two render the same output.

Hedra’s pricing page (read ) bills video by generated length, so 10 seconds of Character-3 counts as 10 seconds, but it gives no credits a second. The Character-3 model page prices the API at 2.5 US cents a second at 540p, 5 at 720p and 6.25 at 1080p. HeyGen publishes no rounding rule, so its 30-second column is pro rata.

Hedra’s plans: Basic $20 a month for 2,000 credits, Pro $50 a month for 7,200, Ultra $100 a month for 18,000 and Teams $75 a month for 14,400.

Can you run Hedra videos as ads?

Not legal advice This section quotes Hedra’s and HeyGen’s documents with their dates and reads them as an ad buyer would. Ask a lawyer before you rely on any reading here.

Hedra’s pricing page labels every paid plan “Commercial use”, and its live terms say nothing on advertising. HeyGen’s terms allow ads on Creator, Pro and Business.

Hedra’s live terms (last updated 4 September 2026) carry 3.6 as one sentence, compliance with the Acceptable Use Policy. That policy has no advertising clause. The terms link no PDF.

The October 2024 PDF, still served at its URL, bars output that “involves commercial activities and/or sales, such as contests, sweepstakes, barter, advertising, or pyramid schemes without Hedra’s prior written consent” (3.6(F)).

The live 15.10 makes the terms “the final, complete and exclusive agreement of the parties”, and the live page does not say whether 3.6(F) still applies. The pricing page labels Basic, Pro, Ultra and Teams “Commercial use”.

HeyGen’s terms (last updated 23 July 2026) leave Creator, Pro and Business output free for “commercial purposes” (s.3). Section 4 bars Free output from “advertising”. Section 2 bars “representing that the User Output is entirely human generated” and asks for AI disclosure “to the extent required by applicable law”.

HeyGen’s stock avatars page answers “Yes, on eligible paid plans” for ads, and its moderation policy (3.1) bars promoting weapons, alcohol, online gambling and commercial sex.

HeyGen’s s.3 licenses paid-plan content for model training. Hedra’s live 3.3 names no training; the October 2024 PDF’s 3.3 named it “Subject to any applicable Account settings”. Plan by plan: Hedra and HeyGen in the AI commercial use matrix.

Characters or presenters: what each one makes

Hedra animates a still image or character into a talking clip and hosts other vendors’ models; HeyGen sells presenter avatars, a digital twin and translation.

Hedra calls itself “visual inference models and infrastructure”: its own Character-3 model beside hosted models from HeyGen, ByteDance, Kling, ElevenLabs and MiniMax (alternatives page). The October 2024 PDF (3.6(D)) bars personal information about anyone other than yourself; the live terms do not say whether that still applies.

Filmmakers use Hedra as the talking-character step in shorts and cartoons (4 of 45 sources: Reddit, Reddit).

HeyGen lists 500+ stock avatars, unlimited photo avatars and one custom digital twin on Creator (plans article). Translation covers 175 languages on every paid plan (pricing page).

What happens to your credits each month and when you cancel?

Hedra’s monthly credits reset while bought packs keep; HeyGen rolls credits over one month and moves a cancelled account to Free.

Hedra’s pricing FAQ says monthly credits reset with no rollover, credit packs do not expire, and a cancelled account keeps “limited watermarked generations”. Users report that entry plans buy only a few minutes of video and that the credits expire (8 of 45 sources: Trustpilot, Trustpilot).

HeyGen’s plans article rolls monthly-plan credits over for one month. On cancelling, the account “moves to the Free plan” and “Unused credits do not carry over” (pricing FAQ), while avatars, videos and projects stay accessible.
