What one HeyGen ad costs

On HeyGen the avatar model sets most of the cost. Avatar V uses 48 credits a minute, 12 times Avatar III with a Video Look (credits article). Creator’s credits cover Avatar V too: the article says they “work as a single balance across supported video generation and asset creation features, including Avatar IV/V”. Business roughly doubles every Creator figure.

Per minute, Avatar III uses 4 credits with a Video Look and 7 with a Photo Look. Avatar IV uses 16 with a Photo Look and 31 with a Video Look.

HeyGen publishes no rounding rule for part minutes, so these figures assume billing by the second. Before you render, check the in-app figure: the credits article says “When available, HeyGen will show the credit cost in-product before you generate.”

Billed by the started minute, a 15 or 30-second ad would cost a full minute. On Creator at $29 a month (pricing page), that is $0.19 on Avatar III with a Video Look and $2.32 on Avatar V, if every credit is used.

Custom Expressive Motion, an Avatar IV option, adds 40 credits a minute. A 30-second Avatar IV Video Look ad with it uses 35.5 credits: $1.72 on Creator at $29 a month, if every credit is used (credits article).

Translating a 30-second ad uses 3 credits with lip-sync in Speed mode, 5 in Precision mode and 2 without lip-sync (credits article). On Creator at $29 a month, that is $0.15, $0.24 or $0.10 per translation, if billed by the second and every credit is used.

Not yet known: how many renders one usable HeyGen ad takes, which turns these list-price figures into a cost per finished ad. Only a bench test can show it, and none has run on HeyGen. Its terms, section 2 (23 July 2026) also say users “may not” “Access any portion of the services for benchmarking, comparative or competitive purposes”.

Which HeyGen plan covers your ads each month?

HeyGen Creator’s 600 credits cover 25 Avatar V ads of 30 seconds a month, or 38 on Avatar IV with a Video Look. Creator sells no extra credits, so more ads mean moving to Pro (credits article).

At monthly prices, Pro undercuts Creator on the price of a credit only from its 5,000-credit tier (pricing page).

Counts are rounded down to whole ads. Which Pro tier to buy is a volume choice. The pricing FAQ says “All Pro tiers include the same features: only the monthly credit allocation changes.”

At monthly prices, each Pro tier up to 3,000 credits costs less than $0.14 more per 100 credits than Creator. Even the 100,000-credit tier, at $4,300 a month, only brings 100 credits down to $4.30.

Over Creator, the Pro card adds 4K export and “Access to all Advanced AI models”, and the plans article adds the Seedance 2.0 engine.

A Business credit costs about twice as much, so on our reading its case is seats for a team and videos up to 60 minutes. Even its top-ups, at $5 per 100 credits, cost more than a Creator credit (credits article).

Creator lists $24 a month billed yearly, so 100 credits fall to $4.00 if every credit is used, and yearly credits last until the renewal date (pricing page).

Is HeyGen free, and do free videos carry a watermark or run as ads?

HeyGen has a free plan, but its videos carry a watermark and may not run as ads. The pricing page gives 3 videos a month of up to 1 minute, with Avatar IV access, and lists watermark removal from Creator up. The plans article, updated 24 September 2026, gives 1 to 3 free videos depending on region.

None of the pages we read offers a free trial of a paid plan; the pricing FAQ’s “try HeyGen for free” means the Free plan.

Section 7(d) of the terms makes payments “non-refundable, except where required by law”. With no trial either, the first ad you may run means paying for at least a month of Creator, listed at $29 a month (pricing page).

Costs the plan card leaves out

• Monthly credits last two cycles at most: the credits article says they have “up to 60 days before they expire”.
• Cancelling forfeits the balance. The pricing FAQ says the account moves to Free when the cycle ends, and “Unused credits do not carry over.”
• Top-ups exist only on Business, in 100-credit blocks at $5, about half the Business plan’s own rate per credit (credits article). Creator and Pro users upgrade instead, paying a prorated difference mid-cycle.
• Extra Business seats cost $20 a month each, and the plans article says “Purchasing additional seats does not increase your credits.”
• Extra custom video avatars are an “Add-on” in the pricing page’s comparison table, with no price shown there (read 26 September 2026).
• Currency: every price here is the US dollar price on HeyGen’s pricing page. Section 7(c) of the terms (23 July 2026) says you pay all charges “at the prices in effect when such charges are incurred, including all taxes and shipping and handling charges applicable to your transactions.” None of the pages we read says whether the listed prices already include tax.

HeyGen price history

HeyGen Creator’s monthly price is the same in every 2026 capture of its pricing page we read; what it buys changed twice.

The January and March captures sold paid plans on “Unlimited videos”, and as late as the 12 May capture the FAQ said paid plans “include unlimited video creation”. By 3 June each plan came with a monthly credit allowance, and Pro’s entry price had halved for 1,000 credits a month.

Then HeyGen changed what a minute costs. The 4 August 2026 version of its credits article charged 3 credits a minute for Avatar III and 20 for Avatar IV or V. The 17 September version charges 4 or 7 for Avatar III, 16 or 31 for Avatar IV, and 48 for Avatar V.

On Creator at $29 a month, a 30-second Avatar V ad rose from $0.48 to $1.16, if every credit is used (pricing page). Guides still quoting 20 credits a minute for Avatar V are out of date.

The free plan’s length cap fell from 3 minutes in the March capture to 1 minute in the May capture. Legacy subscribers keep unlimited Avatar III videos while their plan stays active, but their premium credits now follow the new rates. Once they cancel or switch, they cannot return to the legacy plan (credits article).
