Filmora AI for ads
Verdict on Filmora
Use Filmora to edit ads from your own footage, and keep its AI output out of paid ads. Its support FAQ restricts every AI output except labelled music to “personal/non-commercial use only” (FAQ and EULA read ).
On an individual plan, any commercial use also needs “Video is made by Filmora” in the video description; the Business plan drops that line.
Filmora
- Best for
- Editors who cut ads from their own footage on Windows or Mac and want auto reframe, scene detection and a timeline in one desktop app.
- Not for
- Paid ads built on its AI output: Filmora’s support FAQ restricts AI-generated material other than labelled music to non-commercial use. The terms of invideo AI grant a licence to commercialise outputs.

What Filmora’s AI does for ad work
Filmora is Wondershare’s video editor for Windows and Mac: a timeline where you cut clips, add text and music, and export. Its AI tools sit inside that editor. Most of them spend credits, a prepaid balance that each priced AI action draws down.
Some of Filmora’s AI works on footage you own, and some generates new images and scenes on outside models. Only AI music is cleared for commercial use, by Filmora’s own FAQ.
| Ad job | Credits | Filmora’s FAQ on commercial use |
|---|---|---|
| Captions from speech (speech to text) | 4 a minute | Restricted, under “all other AI-generated materials” |
| Localise a spoken ad (AI translation, voice and subtitles) | 16 a minute | Restricted, under “all other AI-generated materials” |
| Localise with matching mouths (translation with lip sync) | 21 a minute | Restricted, under “all other AI-generated materials” |
| Voiceover from a script (text to speech) | 1 per 10 characters | Restricted, under “all other AI-generated materials” |
| Your own voice, new words (voice cloning) | 100 a use | Restricted, under “all other AI-generated materials” |
| Vertical cuts from a long video (Smart Short Clips) | 6 a minute | Restricted, under “all other AI-generated materials” |
| Ad copy and scripts (AI copywriting) | 10 a use | Restricted, named as text |
| Stills and product shots (AI image) | 10 a use | Restricted, named as images |
| Generated scenes (text to video, Veo 3.1) | 450 a clip | Restricted, named as videos |
| Animate a product photo (image to video, Veo 3.1) | 250 to 450 a clip | Restricted, named as videos |
| Music bed (AI music) | 30 a use | Allowed when labelled “Commercially available” |

The rates come from Wondershare’s PC credit table, its credit rules page and its credits pack page. The FAQ restricts “all other AI-generated materials” and gives text, images and videos only as examples (“including but not limited to”), so it covers a translated or cloned voice too.
Two AI tools only crop and cut your own footage. Auto Reframe moves the crop to keep the subject in frame across 16:9, 9:16, 1:1, 4:3 and 21:9 (Auto Reframe). Smart Scene Cut costs 1 credit a minute (credit table). The FAQ does not name either.
Translation is the AI tool the FAQ’s limit costs an ad maker most. It translates a video’s voice and subtitles into 23 languages and can match the speaker’s mouth to the new audio (AI translation page). Lip sync works on videos under 5 minutes and only when you translate voice and captions together (Windows guide).
Smart Short Clips cuts a long recording into vertical videos “complete with background music, dynamic subtitles, and templates” (Filmora). At 6 credits a minute, a 20-minute founder interview costs 120 credits to cut into shorts.
For generated scenes, the image-to-video tool runs Seedance 2.0, Sora 2 and Veo 3.1, with Seedance 2.0 as the recommended default (AI Image to Video). The AI Commercial Generator puts ad copy, prompted scenes of 4 to 8 seconds and a voiceover in one workspace (AI Commercial Generator).
The credit rules page and the credits pack page still list Sora 2 at 150 to 450 credits a clip. OpenAI shut the Sora 2 API down on 24 September 2026 (Sora). Filmora’s pages do not say which model the Sora 2 option runs now.
Filmora’s avatar tool works from a portrait you supply and makes videos with “one talking avatar” only (AI Audio to Video). Its own UGC ads guide builds the avatar in Wondershare Virbo, then edits it in Filmora (UGC video ads).
Filmora 16, launched on 9 October 2026, adds Smart Text Correction, which flags likely caption errors after speech to text (PR Newswire).
What Filmora’s AI credits buy
Filmora’s Advanced plan issues 1,000 AI credits every 30 days. Unused credits are taken back when the next batch arrives (shop page, credit rules). The Perpetual licence gives 1,000 credits once. A 1,500-credit pack lasts one year (credits pack).
Those 1,000 monthly credits buy two Veo 3.1 clips, with 100 left. Spent on lip-synced translation, they cover 47 minutes.
Wondershare’s shop pages list two prices for Advanced, both unverified. The main shop page lists $59.99 a year and the Mac shop $79.99.
At 1,000 credits for each of 12 months, one Veo 3.1 clip then costs $2.25 to $3.00 if every credit is used. A pack at $9.99, also unverified, for 1,500 credits makes it $3.00.

Can you use Filmora’s AI output in paid ads?
Not for anything its AI generates, by Filmora’s support FAQ; footage you shoot yourself is allowed on conditions. The built-in music and sound effects are out too: the EULA bars them even after “you have bought a business plan”, as tracks “intended for individual use only”.
Filmora’s own pages disagree on the rest. Wondershare’s licence agreement (EULA) and Filmora’s AI video generator page allow commercial use. The support FAQ limits everything AI makes except music to personal use.
| Document | What it says |
|---|---|
| EULA undated, commercial use | “If you have purchased an individual plan and want to use Filmora for commercial purpose, you must indicate, “Video is made by Filmora” in your video description.” |
| EULA undated, commercial use | “If you don’t want to indicate “Video is made by Filmora” in your video, you can buy a Filmora Business Plan” |
| EULA undated, generative AI terms | “you can use Content for any purpose, including commercial purposes” |
| Support FAQ undated, built-in effects | “all other AI-generated materials, including but not limited to text (AI copywriting), images, and videos, are restricted to personal/non-commercial use only.” |
| AI Video Generator undated, product page FAQ | “Commercial use is allowed, but check platform rules” |

The EULA’s credit line names only “your video description” and no ad field. So it does not state where the line goes in a paid ad on an individual plan.
The Business plan drops the credit line, and Wondershare sells it per user from its Mac shop page, with no price on the pages read. The FAQ’s limit on AI-generated material still applies on Business.
AI music is the one AI output the FAQ clears, when it carries the “Commercially available” label. The homepage FAQ keeps AI sound effects non-commercial “due to uncertainties in the commercial status of their training materials” (Filmora).
AI-generated resources labeled “Commercially available,” such as AI Music, are suitable for commercial use.
… for non-commercial use due to uncertainties in the commercial status of their training materials.
The generative AI terms also say Output “may not be unique”, so another user can get the same result, and that it “may not be protectable by Intellectual Property”. The EULA bars removing or altering watermarks placed in Output to show AI generation (EULA).
Wondershare’s AI privacy policy sends your prompts and files to third-party model providers and says “We do not use this data to train our own general AI models” (privacy policy).
The AI commercial use matrix marks paid ads Unclear on the free plan and Allowed with conditions on paid plans. AI ad disclosure rules covers the labels Meta, TikTok and Google ask for.
Where Filmora beats and loses to invideo, Captions, HeyGen and Creatify
For generated scenes in paid ads, invideo AI grants what Filmora’s FAQ withholds. Its terms grant a licence to “commercialise Outputs you generate” (4(h)), and since 12 August 2026 they also let invideo train on your data (4(f), terms). Filmora keeps the edge on training. See invideo AI for UGC ads.
HeyGen costs more per translated minute and clears Creator, Pro and Business for commercial use. On Creator billed yearly at $24 a month billed yearly, lip-synced translation in Speed mode costs $0.24 a minute if every credit is used (credits article, prices checked ).
Filmora’s 21 credits a minute come to $0.10 to $0.14 on its unverified Advanced annual prices, if every credit is used. Paid HeyGen plans translate into “175+ languages and dialects” against Filmora’s 23 (plans article). See HeyGen for ads.
Captions is a phone-first app with AI editing and dubbing, plus its own synthetic actors. For a creator who films on a phone and posts the same day, it covers the caption and translation jobs without a desktop.
The AI commercial use matrix marks paid ads Unclear on its app plans and Allowed with conditions on Captions on web. See Captions.
Creatify turns a product link into avatar ads with batch variants. Filmora’s avatar tool needs your own portrait, so a UGC-style avatar ad starts elsewhere. See Creatify for UGC ads.
For CapCut’s free editor and its music licence, see video editors for UGC ads; more video tools sit in the AI video hub.

Ease of learning is the common praise (3 of 4 review sources: G2, Capterra). AI helpers save editing time, auto captions and background removal among them (2 of 4: G2, TechRadar).
The complaints follow the credits and the billing. Generated clips and images use a large share of a monthly allowance, Veo most of all (3 of 4: G2, Trustpilot). Auto-renewals arrive without a clear warning and refunds are refused (3 of 4: Trustpilot, G2). Support answers through a chatbot (3 of 4: Trustpilot, Capterra).

Questions buyers ask about Filmora
Is Filmora free?
Yes, with a watermark. The free edition edits and exports, but “watermarks will be added to the exported files” (shop page). Wondershare’s Microsoft Store shop page lists 100 free AI credits for some features.
Can I use Filmora AI videos commercially?
Not by its support FAQ, the strictest of its pages. It restricts AI-generated text, images and video to personal or non-commercial use and clears AI music labelled “Commercially available”. Its AI video generator page says “Commercial use is allowed, but check platform rules”.
How many AI credits does Filmora give?
1,000 a month on Advanced, issued every 30 days and taken back at the next issue. The Perpetual licence gives 1,000 once, and a 1,500-credit pack lasts a year.
Does Filmora train AI on my videos?
Not its own general AI models, by its AI privacy policy. Your prompts and files go to third-party model providers, which the policy says are contractually barred from using them for anything else.
