What Nano Banana does for product ads
Nano Banana is Google’s name for its Gemini image models: Nano Banana 2, Nano Banana 2 Lite and Nano Banana Pro. For a product ad, the job is Nano Banana image editing. Upload your packshot and ask for a new scene, a model holding it or a translated label.
Google’s launch post for Nano Banana 2 (26 February 2026) claims it keeps “the fidelity of up to 14 objects in a single workflow”. Google’s image guide (last updated 23 September 2026) gives a lower figure for the same model: “character resemblance of up to 4 characters and the fidelity of up to 10 objects in a single workflow”.
The launch post also claims “accurate, legible text for marketing mockups” and sizes “from 512px to 4K”. It names Google’s own surfaces: the Gemini app, Search, AI Studio and the Gemini API, Vertex AI, Flow and Google Ads. In Google Ads it is “powering suggestions while creating campaigns”.
What one Nano Banana image costs, by route
On Google’s API a Nano Banana image has a list price. In the Gemini app it has none you can count.
The Gemini API charges Nano Banana 2 image output at $60 per million tokens, and a 1K image uses 1,120 tokens. That makes $0.067 per image before input tokens, prices checked . Batch mode halves image output prices, and the API has no free tier for image output.
Google’s pricing page still lists the original Nano Banana API model, gemini-2.5-flash-image, at $0.039 an image. That rate belongs to the original model; Nano Banana 2 costs more at 1K.
Google’s deprecations page gives it a shutdown date of 2 October 2026. The pricing page names Nano Banana 2 or Nano Banana 2 Lite as the move. The image guide recommends Lite, at $0.0336 for a 1K image.
The Gemini app’s plans run from Free to Google AI Ultra at $99.99 a month, or $199.99 with 20 times Google AI Pro’s limits, checked . None states an image count. Limits are “compute-based”, refresh every 5 hours up to a weekly cap, and “may change without notice, including due to capacity constraints” (limits help).
For occasional edits the app is the cheap route. Free includes Nano Banana 2 with 1K downloads, and Google AI Plus at $4.99 a month adds 2K downloads and Redo with Pro (plans, Gemini Apps Help). In Flow, Google’s launch post offers Nano Banana 2 “to all Flow users for zero credits”.
Third-party sites also sell Nano Banana outside Google, some below its API price for the same model. Others charge up to 7.5 times as much at list prices read 23 September 2026, if every credit is used (AI static ad generators).

$0.067 per image at list price. Gemini API, Nano Banana 2, standard tier: image output is $60 per 1M tokens and a 1K (1024x1024) image uses 1,120 tokens, so 1,120 x $60 / 1,000,000 = $0.0672, which Google rounds to $0.067. Input tokens are extra. The same arithmetic gives $0.134 for Nano Banana Pro at 1K ($120 per 1M tokens). App subscriptions state no image quantity, so no per-image cost is computed for them.
Every Nano Banana plan sits beside other tools’ in the price tracker.
Nano Banana 2 vs Pro
On the Gemini API, Nano Banana Pro costs twice Nano Banana 2 at 1K, a third more at 2K and 1.6 times at 4K. Pro’s price does not rise from 1K to 2K, so 2K ad files are where the step up costs least.
| Size | Nano Banana 2 (USD) | Nano Banana Pro (USD) | Pro price multiple |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1K | $0.067 | $0.134 | 2.0 times |
| 2K | $0.101 | $0.134 | 1.3 times |

Google’s image guide calls Nano Banana 2 its “generalist workhorse model for all tasks” and Pro “The premium choice for the most complex visual tasks”. Lite is “Not optimized for multiple reference inputs or multi-turn sequential editing”, the steps a product edit leans on.
In the Gemini app, Pro is a “Redo with Pro” step for paid plans. “If you reach your daily quota of Nano Banana 2 images, you can’t redo any additional images with Nano Banana Pro” (Gemini Apps Help).
Can you use Nano Banana images in ads?
Paid ads with Nano Banana images are unclear on every plan and on the API. Google’s Terms of Service (effective 30 July 2026) say: “Google won’t claim ownership over that content.” No clause grants or limits ad use, so our AI commercial use matrix marks paid ads Unclear for Nano Banana.
The Gemini API terms (effective 23 March 2026) add: “You acknowledge that Google may generate the same or similar content for others and that we reserve all rights to do so.” Nothing in those terms makes an image you make there exclusive to your brand.
Two lines bear on UGC-style ads. The Terms of Service, under “Don’t abuse our services”, bar “misleading others into thinking that generative AI content was created by a human”. The Prohibited Use Policy (17 December 2024) bars “Misrepresenting the provenance of generated content by claiming it was created solely by a human, in order to deceive.”
Outside the European Economic Area, Switzerland and the UK, Google uses client photos sent through AI Studio or the API’s unpaid quota “to provide, improve, and develop Google products”. There, “human reviewers may read, annotate, and process your API input and output”.
On the paid quota, and on all use in the EEA, Switzerland and the UK, “Google doesn’t use your prompts” or responses to improve its products (Gemini API terms).
SynthID, C2PA and AI labels on ad platforms
Every Nano Banana image carries SynthID, Google’s invisible watermark (image guide). Images from the Gemini app also carry Content Credentials (C2PA), provenance metadata written into the file (watermark help). The API guide does not mention C2PA.
The app’s Media Watermark setting turns the visible Gemini mark on or off. “This setting only controls the visible watermark. It doesn’t affect SynthID watermarks or Content Credentials for media you create with Gemini Apps.” In India, South Korea and Vietnam only Ultra subscribers see the setting.
Meta’s update of 1 June 2026 says: “We will also begin automatically detecting ads created or edited using third-party AI tools through industry-standard signals” (Meta). Its Business Help Center names one: Meta uses “industry-standard detection methods, such as C2PA”. Our Meta AI disclosure guide covers the AI info label.
TikTok said on 9 May 2024 that it was “starting to automatically label” AI content uploaded from “certain other platforms” by reading C2PA Content Credentials. The post does not mention ads (TikTok AI label guide).
