Kling vs Seedance

By Alexandre S. Published Last checked What changed

Verdict: Kling AI or Seedance (ByteDance)

A Kling membership for commercial use today; Seedance for 30-second takes only where your route’s terms allow ads. A 10-second Seedance 2.0 clip costs $4.00 on Runway Max (checked ), and no Seedance route prints clear ad terms for 30-second clips. Lumina’s terms (30 September 2026) neither bar nor permit ads, and Kling’s ad-consent clause (ToS 3.1(d), paid terms 7.1) stays open for members.

Kling AI

Best for
Paying members making 3 to 15-second product clips with native audio who spend each month’s credits before they expire.
Not for
Ads made without a membership (free or top-ups only): commercial use needs Kling’s written permission (ToS 4.6), and outputs must carry the Kling brand or say they are generated by Kling AI (4.5).

Seedance (ByteDance)

Best for
Ads built from many reference images with synced dialogue, made on Lumina or a reseller whose terms allow advertising.
Not for
Anyone planning to run ads from Dreamina before reading the paid plan’s terms: the base terms bar commercial and advertising use.

Where can you buy Seedance, and whose terms apply?

From ByteDance’s own apps or from a reseller, and each route brings its own contract. Kling sells under its own ToS and paid terms, plus separate API terms.

  • Dreamina: Bytedance Pte. Ltd.’s terms (22 January 2026) cover users outside the US. They send US users to separate Dreamina US Terms, which did not load on 2 October 2026.
  • Lumina: BytePlus’s business route launched Seedance 2.5 with 30-second clips. You own the output and BytePlus does not train on your data (AI terms 2.1 and 3.3, 28 August 2026). Output shared externally carries a visible watermark or equivalent (Lumina terms 3, 30 September 2026). No clause bars or permits advertising in words; the AUP bars “surrogate advertisement” for betting and gambling.
  • CapCut: CapCut’s terms (15 April 2026) neither grant nor bar commercial use of generated output, and section 10 takes a perpetual licence to your uploads.
  • Luma: Section 3.7 of Luma’s terms (14 May 2026): “Use of Third-Party AI Tools is subject to the third party’s terms and conditions and not this Agreement”. ByteDance’s terms apply there.
  • Runway: Its terms (4.4) allow commercial use and do not say whether ByteDance’s terms apply to Seedance clips (10.4).
  • Higgsfield: Section 8 applies the model maker’s policy where it is stricter.

No route above prints terms that clearly allow a 30-second Seedance clip in a paid ad.

Can you run the clips in paid ads?

Not legal advice This section quotes Dreamina’s and Kling’s terms with their dates and reads them as an ad buyer would. Ask a lawyer before you rely on any reading here.

Outside the US, Dreamina’s terms bar it unless separate terms permit it; Kling’s members may use output commercially, with a consent clause left open.

Dreamina’s services are “generally provided for private, non-commercial use” (section 1). Section 6 bars using them “to advertise or perform any commercial solicitation”, and section 7 bars using the Services “or any content therein for any commercial or unauthorized purposes” unless other terms allow it.

Section 8 grants ByteDance “and other users of the Platform” a “perpetual, irrevocable” licence to your assets.

Kling’s paid terms (21 April 2026) let members use output “for any commercial purpose” (3.1.2). Paid terms 7.1 keep ToS 3.1(d) and 3.1(e), which require written consent to use the Services “to advertise”. The paid terms do not say whether 3.1.2 overrides them.

Non-members need written permission for any commercial use (4.6), and 4.5 asks for the Kling brand or a “generated by Kling AI” notice. Clause by clause: Seedance and Kling in the rights matrix.

Disney and Paramount sent ByteDance cease-and-desist letters over Seedance 2.0 on 13 and 14 February 2026 (Variety, 14 February 2026). ByteDance said it was “taking steps to strengthen current safeguards” (Storyboard18, 16 February 2026).

Which makes a 30-second ad in fewer steps?

Seedance 2.5, in one take; Kling 3.0 needs at least two clips of up to 15 seconds.

Seedance 2.5 makes 30-second clips from up to 50 reference inputs, per ByteDance Seed’s Seedance 2.5 page and BytePlus’s Lumina launch banner (23 September 2026). Kling 3.0 runs 3 to 15 seconds, with multi-shot cuts inside one generation.

CapCut rolled Seedance 2.0 out to paid users at up to 15 seconds, reaching the US on 7 April 2026 (CapCut newsroom). CapCut now also offers Seedance 2.5.

Two of 35 Seedance sources say the 30-second takes leave fewer retakes (YouTube, YouTube). Five report that long takes lose coherence and spell on-screen text wrong (YouTube, Reddit).

Curious Refuge runs Seedance 2.5 through 30-second takes, a spec ad among them, and points out artifacting, banding and a face that changes late in a take Video: Seedance 2.5 Is Incredible... Until It Isn’t, Curious Refuge on YouTube, .

What does a second cost?

Kling’s API, at $0.168 a second at 1080p with audio. ByteDance publishes no Seedance price, so its rows come from Luma and Runway.

Runway Standard costs $15 a month for 625 credits and Max $95 a month for 9,500 (Runway pricing, checked ). Luma Plus costs $30 a month for 10,000 credits (Luma pricing, checked ).

A 10-second clip by route, if every credit is used (Kling rates read 23 September 2026)
Route and model Rate Cost a second 10-second clip
Kling API, Kling 3.0 with audio, 1080p Per second $0.168 $1.68
