Kling AI vs Runway

By Alexandre S. Published Last checked What changed

Verdict: Kling AI or Runway

Kling’s API for the lowest Kling 3.0 list rate; Runway to use Kling 3.0 beside Gen-4.5. On Runway Standard it costs 2.4 times the API rate if all credits are used (plans checked , rates 23 and 24 September). Kling’s ToS 3.1(d) ad-consent clause stays in force for members (paid terms 7.1), and Runway trains on your inputs and outputs (4.4).

Kling AI

Best for
Paying members making 3 to 15-second product clips with native audio who spend each month’s credits before they expire.
Not for
Ads made without a membership (free or top-ups only): commercial use needs Kling’s written permission (ToS 4.6), and outputs must carry the Kling brand or say they are generated by Kling AI (4.5).

Runway

Best for
Teams that want Runway’s own models and Aleph video-to-video editing next to Kling and Seedance, with no commercial restriction on outputs.
Not for
Brands that cannot accept inputs and outputs being used to train Runway’s models, which the terms allow.

Is Kling on Runway the same as Kling direct?

The same model family, sold in two shops at different rates and under different contracts.

Runway’s compare table (read 24 September 2026) lists Kling 3.0 Pro with audio at 17 credits a second and Std with audio at 13. Kling 3.0 Turbo at 1080p costs 16. Runway also sells the older Kling 2.6 Pro at 25 and Kling 2.5 Turbo Pro at 15.

Kling sells 3.0, 3.0 Omni and 3.0 Turbo itself, in the app on credits and on its API by the second. In the app, Kling 3.0 costs 12 credits a second at 1080p with native audio and 9 at 720p (Kling 3.0 guide). Clips run 3 to 15 seconds and 1080p is a membership benefit.

Which costs less per second of Kling 3.0?

Kling’s API at the published rates: Runway Max matches it, and Runway Standard costs about 2.4 times as much, if every credit is used.

Runway Standard costs $15 a month for 625 credits and Max $95 a month for 9,500 (pricing page, checked ). The 2.4 times figure divides Standard’s 17 credits a second ($0.41) by the API’s $0.168 a second.

Kling 3.0 or Runway’s own Gen-4.5 for an ad clip?

Gen-4.5 costs less than Kling 3.0 on Runway Standard; Kling 3.0 costs less on Kling’s API and brings audio in the same pass.

Gen-4.5 costs 12 credits a second on Runway, $0.29 per second of video on Standard if every credit is used (pricing page, checked ). Kling 3.0 makes clips of 3 to 15 seconds with native dialogue and effects in one generation.

Runway adds Aleph 2.0, which edits existing footage at 28 credits a second. Four of 54 Runway sources say it swaps the background or the product convincingly across up to 30 seconds (Reddit, YouTube). Two say Gen-4.5 falls behind rival models on fidelity and realism in creator tests (YouTube, YouTube).

Can you run the clips in paid ads?

Not legal advice This section quotes Runway’s and Kling’s terms with their dates and reads them as an ad buyer would. Ask a lawyer before you rely on any reading here.

On Runway, any plan; on Kling, a membership, with an advertising-consent clause left open.

Runway’s terms (15 September 2026) say it “does not restrict your commercial use of your Outputs” (4.4), Free included. The terms do not say whether Kling’s terms also apply to a Kling clip made on Runway. Section 10.4 treats materials “hosted by another party” as used at your own risk, and Supplemental Terms control where they conflict.

Kling’s paid terms (21 April 2026) say members may use output “for any commercial purpose” (3.1.2), during the validity period. Paid terms 7.1 keep ToS 3.1(d) and 3.1(e), which require written consent to use the Services “to advertise”. The paid terms do not say whether 3.1.2 overrides them.

Without a membership, 4.6 bars commercial use “without our written permission”, and 4.5 asks for the Kling brand or a “generated by Kling AI” notice. Kling’s advertising page FAQ (read 26 September 2026) says free-tier videos “can be used for commercial purposes”, which contradicts 4.6. Kling’s API terms (kling.ai/document-api) load only in a browser and are not quoted here.

Who trains on your uploads?

Both take a licence to your material; Runway’s licence is irrevocable and covers outputs.

Runway’s 4.4 grants it an “irrevocable, perpetual” licence to use inputs and outputs to train and improve its models, on every plan. Kling’s 4.7.1 gives it a licence to inputs and outputs. Its 4.7.3 lets it train on usage data, aggregated data or input, with output unnamed there. You can revoke Kling’s licence by emailing support.

Refused refunds come next on both, each count within that tool’s own sources.

  • Characters keep one face and outfit across multi-shot cuts (4 of 37 sources: Reddit, YouTube)

If neither fits

Luma also sells Kling 3.0 with audio, at 49 credits a second at 1080p ($0.147 a second on Plus if every credit is used). Higgsfield puts Kling, Veo and Seedance on one balance but shows each model’s credits only at the Generate button. Google Veo runs 8-second clips with native audio on Google’s own plans and API.
