1Password lets AI agents sign in without seeing your password

The agent asks to log in, you approve it, and 1Password fills in the credentials itself; agents from Meta, Anthropic and OpenAI are among those supported.

Password manager 1Password launched 1Password for Agents on Thursday 22 October 2026, a way for personal AI agents to sign in to your accounts without ever receiving or storing your password, the company announced.

1Password types the credentials in for the agent only after you approve, TechCrunch reports. Before that, you see which login it wants and why, and the agent proves who it is with a digital key of its own. Supported agents include Meta’s Muse, Anthropic’s Claude Duet, OpenAI’s Dots and ChatGPT Work, SpaceXSI’s Grok Bot and the start-up Town’s assistant.

Handing an agent the password itself leaves copies outside your control, 1Password says. Chief product officer Aashish Tripathi says an agent should work “without getting permanent access to everything behind the account”.

Agents now book, buy and file on people’s behalf, and many of the logins they would need sit with marketers, from ad accounts to shop back ends; our list of AI tools for Meta ads shows how many tools already work inside an ad account.

Routed through 1Password, an agent signs in to an ad account or shop back end only on your approval and never keeps a copy of the password to reuse later.
