AI firms pledge $2.4 billion to a White House science push
Nvidia, AMD, OpenAI, Anthropic and Google lead the pledges, and Trump gave Musk, Huang, Su and Brin the National Medal of Science.
Eleven companies committed $2.4 billion in AI tools and compute credits to federal agencies in the Genesis Mission on Thursday 8 October 2026, according to a White House fact sheet reported by PYMNTS. Nvidia’s $1 billion is the largest share, ahead of AMD at $500 million and OpenAI at $200 million. Four companies (AWS, Armada, Crusoe and Micron) put in $50 million apiece, AMP and Emerald AI $100 million each, and Anthropic and Google $150 million each.
The pledges came at the Science: A New Golden Age summit in Washington, where President Trump awarded the National Medal of Science to Elon Musk, Sergey Brin, Jensen Huang and Lisa Su, NBC News reports. Satya Nadella and Michael Dell received the National Medal of Technology and Innovation. Hours before the ceremony, Vice President JD Vance said the administration would bar Microsoft and several other companies from a scheme through which foreign workers apply for green cards.
Anthropic’s share runs over three years and makes Claude available across the mission’s 15-plus agencies, NASA and the National Science Foundation among them, the company says. It covers credits for several hundred research projects, with fusion energy and quantum computing among the priorities.
For buyers of AI tools, the pledges are credits and tools, per the fact sheet: each company’s share is spent on its own products inside federal research.
