ChatGPT adds virtual try-on to its shopping results
Users upload a selfie or full-body photo and ChatGPT shows clothes and accessories on them, with a new shelf for saved products.
OpenAI added a Try on button to ChatGPT’s shopping results on Thursday 1 October 2026, TechCrunch reports. A user uploads a selfie or a full-body photo, and ChatGPT shows the garment or accessory on them. TechCrunch describes it as a global launch.
The feature also works outside ChatGPT’s own results: a screenshot of an item from any shop can be uploaded and tried on. A new saved-products shelf in the Library sits next to the try-on images, Engadget reports. It runs on ChatGPT Images 2.5, the image model OpenAI released in September.
OpenAI’s help pages say ChatGPT picks the products shown on its own, with no ads or retail partnerships behind them, and that the images are “visualizations, not fit assessments”, RuntimeWire reports. Reference photos stay stored for later try-ons and can be managed in settings. Engadget notes that uploads from personal accounts can be used for training unless the user opts out.
Google launched a similar try-on in July 2025, TechCrunch notes.
For fashion and accessories brands, a shopper can now see a product on their own body inside ChatGPT before reaching the brand’s site. OpenAI’s help pages do not say how ChatGPT picks the products it shows.
