Google Cloud launches a Gemini agent for office work
The agent gets its own work account and email address, picks a model per task and is in private preview for enterprise customers.
Google Cloud announced the Gemini agent at its Gemini at Work 2026 event on Thursday 8 October 2026, describing it as a universal agent for work. Google says it plans tasks, uses skills and tools, connects to a company’s business systems and picks the model for each job, with cost controls built in.
The agent connects to Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Slack, Jira, Confluence, BigQuery, Snowflake and any Model Context Protocol server, TechCrunch reports. Users can also pick the model themselves, including third-party models, starting with Anthropic’s Claude models. Each agent gets its own Workspace account and email address, and its actions are logged under the agent’s name in an audit trail. Sundar Pichai told the event that Gemini has over 1 billion monthly users and that nearly 90% of Fortune 100 companies use Gemini Enterprise.
Access is limited for now. The agent runs inside the Gemini Enterprise app and is in private preview for enterprise customers, The Verge notes, while Google’s consumer agent, Gemini Spark, sits in a separate part of the Gemini app. On, Shopify and PayPal were among the early testers.
For teams that run campaigns from Workspace, work delegated to the agent is logged under the agent’s own name, so the audit trail shows which tasks a person handed off.
