Google Play now runs private AI-built apps from AI Studio

Adults in the US and some other markets can build an Android app with AI and install it for their own use with a standard Google account.

Android users can now describe an app to an AI in Google AI Studio, a habit known as vibe coding, and install the result on their own phone through Google Play, Google said on Tuesday 13 October 2026. The only sign-in required is an ordinary Google account, Google says.

Nobody else can find or open these apps: Play keeps them out of search and off its public listings, TechCrunch reports. Users must be 18 or over. Google says sharing with a few friends and relatives follows later, and that an app can then move to the public store once it passes Play’s standard safety checks.

Google also expanded Ask Play, the store’s built-in AI assistant, which now compares similar apps side by side. Game Finder, a new recommendation tool, draws on the play habits of 1.2 billion Android gamers, Ars Technica reports. Ars adds that Google does not check the private apps.

For small business owners, a personal Android tool now starts with a prompt in AI Studio and installs from Google Play like any other app.
