Nvidia in talks to buy or back Reflection AI, FT says
The chipmaker, already a large shareholder, is weighing a takeover, an acqui-hire or a bigger stake in the open-weight lab behind Beam.
The Financial Times reported on Saturday 10 October 2026 that Nvidia and Reflection AI, a US lab that publishes open-weight models, are discussing a takeover or a larger Nvidia stake, Bloomberg Law relays. The FT cites people close to the talks and gives no deal terms. Reflection’s last valuation was $25 billion.
Reflection unveiled Beam, its first open-weight model, on 5 October, as we covered on 6 October. Beam is a mixture-of-experts system with 501 billion parameters, 23 billion of them active at a time, and Reflection says its weights follow later in October, Runtimewire reports. According to the FT, a deal could be a full purchase, an acqui-hire with a technology licence or a larger equity stake; Runtimewire adds that a computing deal is also possible. Nvidia has already put $800 million into the company, and both sides declined to comment to the paper.
Nvidia, already one of Reflection’s largest shareholders, publishes open models under the Nemotron name; the FT says none of them reaches frontier scale. Reflection was founded by former Google DeepMind researchers Misha Laskin and Ioannis Antonoglou.
For teams planning around open-weight models, the company that controls Beam’s weights could change before those weights ship.
