OpenAI nears a $30 billion round at a $1.25 trillion valuation

Investors from the UAE and Coatue lead the round, CNBC reports; a month ago, reports put the target at $1.4 trillion.

UAE investors and Coatue lead a round of up to $30 billion that values OpenAI at $1.25 trillion before the new money, people familiar with the deal told CNBC on Thursday 22 October 2026. They describe it as an “opportunistic” bridge to a possible stock market listing.

The figure sits below last month’s. In September, Bloomberg reported OpenAI was chasing the same sum at $1.4 trillion, as we covered then. Its round in March valued it at $852 billion once the money was in, and it filed confidential listing paperwork in June, TechCrunch notes.

Signatures are due by the end of next week, OpenAI told investors, with the amount still open; a separate UAE deal for more computing capacity is under negotiation, CNBC reports. OpenAI declined to comment.

At more than $1 trillion, OpenAI would be the most valuable private company on record, TechCrunch notes, and the price also bears on Anthropic, whose public filing could come within days, according to rumours TechCrunch cites.

If the round closes at $1.25 trillion, it becomes the latest private price that investors hold Anthropic’s up against when its public filing lands.
