Schneider Electric nears a $20 billion deal for PTC
The French group is close to buying the US design software maker, the FT and Reuters report, with an announcement possible on Monday.
Schneider Electric is close to a deal to buy PTC, the Boston-based maker of product design and engineering software, for about $20 billion, the Financial Times reported on Sunday 4 October 2026. Reuters confirmed the talks with a person close to the deal, who said an announcement could come as soon as Monday and that the talks could still fail. Neither company responded to Reuters’ requests for comment.
PTC has a market value of $15.63 billion on LSEG data cited by Reuters, and its products include the Creo design software, according to DigitalToday. Reuters says PTC has gained from demand for its AI-powered tools.
The deal would extend Schneider’s run of software buys. Cognite ($3.1 billion, industrial data and AI) was agreed in June and Shelly Group ($1.4 billion) last month, DigitalToday reports; AVEVA came in 2023. Schneider also supplies cooling, racks and power distribution for data centres, which Reuters says is driving its earnings.
For manufacturers on PTC software, the deal would put their design and product data tools under the same owner as Cognite’s industrial AI and AVEVA’s plant software.
