SpaceX’s AI unit held talks to lease compute to Microsoft
The former xAI business already rents capacity to Anthropic and Google for billions of dollars a month, The Information reports.
SpaceX’s AI unit held talks with Microsoft in summer 2026 about leasing it computing capacity, The Information reports. No deal has been confirmed between the two companies, Crypto Briefing reports.
The unit, which took in Elon Musk’s xAI and its Colossus data centres in Memphis earlier this year, already rents capacity to other labs. Crypto Briefing lists Anthropic at up to $1.25 billion a month and Google at $920 million a month from October 2026, plus Reflection AI at $150 million a month. Together the contracts came to about $41.1 billion in annualised revenue in September.
The business plans to bring about 420,000 Nvidia processors online in November and to start a $1.1 billion-a-month contract in December, Finimize reports, citing The Information.
For buyers of AI tools, the labs behind Claude and Gemini now rent part of their compute from the company that also builds Grok. A Microsoft contract would put one of the three largest cloud sellers on that customer list.
