Trump hosts Anthropic’s Dario Amodei for a White House dinner

President Donald Trump invited Anthropic chief executive Dario Amodei to a private dinner at the White House on Sunday evening, 27 September 2026, Axios reported. Axios calls it the first one-on-one meeting between the two. Trump confirmed the dinner on Sunday evening, according to Al Jazeera.
Amodei missed Trump’s state dinner for Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday, which Sam Altman and other technology chiefs attended. Axios reports that he had a scheduling conflict, and that Trump then invited him on his own.
The meeting follows months of friction. In February, Anthropic refused to let its models be used for autonomous weapons or mass surveillance. The Pentagon went on to label the company a supply-chain risk, which bars military use of its models. Anthropic is contesting that label in court, and a federal appeals court ruled on Friday that the Pentagon can keep it, Fox Business reports.
The two men also disagree in public. TechCrunch notes that Amodei has published a plan to slow AI development, while Trump has called the backlash against AI a Democratic hoax.
On Tuesday, Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson host a larger meeting with leading AI executives. For Anthropic, whose Claude models compete for government and enterprise contracts, the supply-chain label is what a better relationship could change.
