Trump orders federal agencies to call AI super intelligence

An executive order signed with the lab accord swaps artificial intelligence for Super Intelligence across federal paperwork.

President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Tuesday 29 September 2026 that tells federal agencies to write Super Intelligence, or SI, wherever they wrote artificial intelligence or AI, the White House order says. It came the same day as the lab self-audit accord we covered on 30 September.

The switch covers letters, websites, reports and policy papers, as far as the law allows, and leaves historical records alone. The order says the new term covers everything the US Code already calls artificial intelligence. Within 60 days, the President’s science and technology adviser proposes wording for a formal federal definition. The order creates no legal rights and changes no agency’s powers.

The accord itself drew attention for a different reason. Beneath the president’s signature, the signed text spells the country as “Unites States”, TechCrunch reports, a slip first flagged by Gizmodo’s Matt Novak.

For anyone who sells AI tools to the US government, tenders, guidance and agency pages switch to the new term. Product names and contracts that say AI stay valid, because the order changes the wording and leaves the rules as they are.
