Meta pushes its new ad terms back to 20 November
The Commercial Terms and Self-Serve Ad Terms that make advertisers answer for Meta’s AI edits now start three weeks later, with no new wording announced.
Meta has moved the start of its revised Commercial Terms and Self-Serve Ad Terms from 30 October to 20 November 2026. A Meta spokesperson told Reuters on Friday 23 October that the extra three weeks are there to explain “what’s changing and what’s not”, The Next Web reports.
These are the terms we covered on 23 October. They make a business answer for the edits Meta’s AI makes to its ads, and they let Meta send crawlers to websites linked to business accounts. A day before Meta gave way, the News/Media Alliance (more than 2,000 US publishers) wrote to Mark Zuckerberg asking for a withdrawal, The Next Web notes; earlier that week, European publishers had taken the terms to EU and UK competition regulators.
No new text came with the postponement. Meta did not say it would change anything, and hours later its UK English preview page still gave 30 October as the start date, PPC Land found. Meta’s spokesperson pointed website owners to robots.txt, a site’s opt-out list for bots.
Our guide to Meta’s AI ad terms, now updated to the new date, rests on a line-by-line read of both texts on 6 October 2026. The incoming Self-Serve Ad Terms keep you responsible for checking and approving ads even when Meta’s automated features built them.
With no new wording announced, the delay changes only the date: from 20 November any ad Meta’s automated features build is yours to check and approve, so the extra three weeks are time to see which of those features run on your campaigns.
