Microsoft patches a record 1,411 flaws as AI finds more bugs
October’s Windows update is the largest Microsoft has shipped, and the company credits AI models for the volume.
Microsoft’s monthly security update on Tuesday 13 October 2026 closed 1,411 holes across Windows and its other products, the most it has ever fixed in one go, BleepingComputer reports. Attackers were already using one of them, a way to slip past a Windows security warning.
The record it beats is a month old. September brought close to 1,000 fixes, around ten times a usual month’s load, KrebsOnSecurity reports. Microsoft says large language models, the technology behind chatbots, account for the jump in bugs found. Krebs counts at least 78 critical flaws this month. Critical means an attacker can strike with little or no help from the user.
Security experts warn that the volume itself is a strain, Krebs reports: IT teams often trial each update before installing it across the company. By the count of Tenable researcher Satnam Narang, Microsoft has fixed over 4,000 flaws in 2026, with November and December still ahead. Fortra’s Tyler Reguly advises fixing first the 26 Microsoft flaws on the US government’s list of bugs known to be exploited this year.
For any business on Windows, two record months in a row call for a patch order, with the flaws attackers already use installed first.
