US and China agree an AI incident channel and a standing dialogue

The new forum is called the US-China Super Intelligence (SI) Dialogue. It exists to exchange views on the technology’s risks and benefits, and its next meeting is due by November. The two leaders also agreed to use the term “super intelligence” in place of artificial intelligence, the name Donald Trump prefers.

China’s foreign ministry counts an AI dialogue with the US among eight results of the talks, UPI reports. Neither government has said what kind of incident would go through the channel. Trump says the two sides made no agreement to develop or regulate frontier models together.

The deal lands in a week of competition on hardware as well. Beijing has told some of its largest tech groups that it intends to approve purchases of Nvidia’s RTX Pro 5500, The Information reports.

For AI companies on both sides, the change is procedural for now. Washington and Beijing gain a standing place to raise a failure in an advanced system before it turns into a diplomatic dispute, while the race on chips and models carries on.
