Captions AI pricing

By Alexandre S. Published Prices checked What changed

Max is the cheapest Captions plan on the pricing page: $24.99 a month for 500 credits, an iOS price, checked (official pricing page). Captions (Mirage) plans read on its official pricing page on . Prices in USD. No yearly price is published. Captions (Mirage) publishes no price for Enterprise, so its cost is not computed.

What one Captions ad costs

Method: $4.00 per video at list price on Max at $24.99 a month, if every credit is used. Max at 24.99 dollars for 500 credits = 0.05 dollars a credit. Prompt to Video, which generates a talking video with a Mirage actor, costs 16 credits every 6 seconds, listed under Costs Based On Average Use with no rounding rule for a part block (help centre, modified 21 September 2026), so 30 seconds = 80 credits = 4.00 dollars. The pricing page says its prices are iOS plans; web prices are not shown.

Prompt to Video, the feature that writes and voices a talking video with a Mirage actor, costs “16 credits every 6 seconds” (AI usage help article, modified 21 September 2026). The article gives no rounding rule for a part block, so the figures below divide pro rata.

On Max at $24.99 a month, a 15-second ad uses 40 credits, or $2.00, if every credit is used. A 60-second ad uses 160, or $8.00. AI edits and dubbing carry their own credit costs in the same article, outside these figures.

Why a bigger Captions plan does not lower the cost per ad

Each Frontier tier doubles the credits and roughly doubles the price, so the price of a credit stays at about five cents (pricing page). The spread from Max to Frontier 4x is under a hundredth of a cent per credit.

A bigger plan buys volume and headroom. Rollover holds “up to 3× your monthly allowance”, so the ceiling grows with the plan (pricing FAQ). And Frontier 4x is the one consumer tier that allows top-ups.

If you need more than about 70 such ads a month, Enterprise’s “Bulk credit discounts” are the only lower rate on the page, at “Custom pricing”.

Is Captions free?

Yes, with a conflict on what Free includes.

The pricing page’s comparison table lists Free’s “AI usage credits” as “None” (pricing page, read 2 October 2026). The help centre lists “60 - 200 (do not refresh)” one-time AI credits on Free (AI usage help article, modified 21 September 2026). At 80 credits, the help centre’s top figure covers two 30-second Prompt to Video ads.

Neither the pricing page nor the help article states a watermark rule for Free, or lists a trial on any plan.

iOS, web and business prices

Not legal advice This section quotes Mirage’s two sets of terms and reads them as a buyer would. What they mean for your account is a question for Mirage or a lawyer.
Watch out Two Captions documents disagree on Mirage actors in ads. The Prompt to Video help article (17 August 2026) calls them “free from licensing restrictions”. The app terms (effective 4 September 2025) are the contract: an ad with a Mirage actor needs Mirage’s prior written consent under 3.1(xiv).

The terms leave you owning your output, “subject to Mirage and its licensors’ rights in the Mirage Content contained in the Output” (2.2). The Captions profile and the rights matrix set out the clauses plan by plan.

The pricing page ends: “Features and prices reflect iOS plans only.” Android, desktop and web prices are not on it. Captions on web, the business product, has its own terms, covering output used “for advertising or other purposes” (web terms, effective 29 September 2025). No page publishes its plan prices.

Under those web terms (1.2), you warrant that you “will disclose that AI was used to generate the Captions on web Output and that the Captions on web Outputs are advertisements, as and when appropriate”. An agency running Captions ads for clients reads that clause before choosing the app or the web product.

The help centre also lists a Basic plan at $9.99 a month with 200 credits a month, which the pricing page does not show (AI usage help article). Its credit costs the same five cents.

The captions.ai pricing page lists no API plan. Developer access sits under Enterprise’s custom pricing.

Costs the plan card leaves out

Credits go whether or not anything ships: “Credits are used toward AI usage for each plan regardless of if the projected [sic] is exported or saved” (AI usage help article). A retake you discard costs what a kept take costs, so every retry raises the cost per kept ad.

Users report the same: every AI generation costs credits, failed runs and edits that ignore the instruction included (8 of 36 sources: Trustpilot, Trustpilot).

A creator’s video on trying Captions and cancelling; his description says Captions’ AI editing cut the video down to 8 minutes, so he kept the full length Video: I Tried Captions AI… Then Canceled My Subscription 💀, BrenJos on YouTube, .

Rollover stops at two extra months: “You can save up to two extra months of unused credits” (pricing FAQ). Cancelling ends them: “All remaining credits are forfeited at the end of the billing period”, and a downgrade forfeits whatever sits above the new plan’s cap (AI usage help article).

Below Frontier 4x, there is no way to buy a single credit: you upgrade.

Users report charges after cancelling, through iOS, Stripe or the in-app portal (4 of 36 sources: Trustpilot, Trustpilot). An iOS subscription is cancelled in Apple’s settings.

Price history

The help centre lists Basic at $9.99 a month, checked , for 200 credits, which the pricing page does not show. Max and the Frontier tiers match; the two disagree on Free’s credits. The help centre dates the names: Frontier was “formerly Scale”, and Basic “formerly Pro / Starter” (AI usage help article).

Work out your own cost

A 30-second Prompt to Video ad on Max costs $4.00 per video if every credit is used (pricing page). The cost per AI ad calculator opens on that ad; set your hook variants and the share of takes you keep.

Alternatives and comparisons

HeyGen pricing and Creatify pricing set two avatar tools’ plans against the same 30-second ad. Captions alternatives lists tools sold on the web with published prices, and the Captions vs HeyGen comparison sets the two side by side.
