Google takes ads in AI Mode to 10 more countries

Sponsored listings now run inside Google’s chat-style search from India to Nigeria, and in the US they follow people into their follow-up questions.

AI Mode is the chat-style part of Google Search: you ask a question, get a written answer and can keep the conversation going. On 28 October 2026, the day Alphabet reported its third quarter, Google said ads there are spreading to Singapore, Nigeria, India, Canada, Australia, Kenya, the Philippines, Malaysia, Pakistan and New Zealand (Google’s announcement). Google says it plans to add Brazil, the UK and Mexico in the fourth quarter. US users now also see ads once they ask a follow-up question. Google calls these multiturn ads and labels each one “Sponsored”.

Philipp Schindler, Google’s chief business officer, told investors the move takes these ads global for the first time, TechCrunch reports. It came as Search revenue growth slowed to 12 per cent, from 17 per cent a quarter earlier. In AI Mode, Google says, people click sponsored product listings about as often as unpaid ones. And people type three times as much into AI Mode as into a classic search, on average, Sundar Pichai said. Google first put ads in AI Mode in May 2025, Search Engine Roundtable notes.

Our guide to AI ad disclosure rules, updated 25 October 2026, records Google’s AI label policy of 9 July 2026. The label setting is optional for advertisers. In campaigns that target the EU, India or New York, Google’s help page says labelled ads also carry a visible overlay. Elsewhere, labelled assets get a note in the ad’s three-dot menu.

India is the only one of the ten new markets on that overlay list. So a labelled AI-made product ad shows the visible overlay in Indian campaigns and only the three-dot-menu note in the other nine, and Google has not said how either appears inside an AI Mode answer.
