Meta lets advertisers pick an audience for each ad creative

A new option sets the age range and gender each image or video suits, so several ads for different people can share one ad set.

Meta now lets advertisers say who each ad creative is for. Since Monday 19 October 2026, you can tag each image or video in an ad set with the age range and gender it suits, Meta’s developer blog says. The same option reached Marketing API partners, the third-party tools that buy Meta ads for clients, that day.

In Meta’s own example, a bank could point retirement videos at people in their 50s and early 60s while its savings ads run to everyone.

Until now, age and gender were set on the ad set; putting them on the creative lets Meta’s delivery match visuals to people within one ad set, Social Media Today explains.

Our guide to campaign and ad set budgets sets out the cost of splitting: Meta’s help pages, checked 6 October 2026, say an ad set needs about 50 results in the week after its last significant edit to leave the learning phase, the stretch when delivery is still unstable.

Two audiences can now share one ad set, so their combined results count towards one learning target of about 50 a week, where two ad sets each needed about 50 on their own.
