Reddit trials ads in its own search as outside traffic falls

A small group of advertisers gets the new placement after Reddit’s search referrals fell by more than 1 million a week in October, a drop AdExchanger ties to AI Overviews.

Reddit has started showing ads in its own search results. In a short newsroom post on 3 November 2026, it said the trial covers a select group of eligible advertisers, Search Engine Journal reports. Which ads appear depends on several factors, Reddit said, including how closely they match the search.

Reddit’s example screens show the app after a search for a home office setup, with an ad card holding a product photo and a Shop Now button. The post pairs that search with ads for monitors, desks and office chairs. It says nothing yet about markets, ad formats or pricing, and gives no timeline for adding advertisers.

Reddit’s search traffic is falling. Chief executive Steve Huffman said in the Q3 update that visits sent from search engines dropped by more than 1 million a week on average in October, Social Media Today reports. AdExchanger ties that slide to Google sending fewer visitors as AI Overviews spread. AdExchanger says Reddit announced its shift to login-only viewing less than a week before the trial.

For brands, Reddit is still a small target in AI ad tools. Of the 100 tools in our database, only Omneky’s listing names it as a launch channel. Omneky Lite was $29 a month at our 4 November check, with 200 credits, and its FAQ prices 1,000 credits at about 200 image ads (our price sheet).

At that rate, Lite’s 200 credits come to about 40 images for $29. Reddit has published no ad price, markets or formats for the trial, so the cost of creative is the only number a brand can work out today.
