AI chip demand gives TSMC its sixth record quarter in a row

The world’s largest contract chipmaker beat forecasts and finished its second Arizona plant, though its shares fell in a wider AI sell-off.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC), the world’s largest contract chipmaker, reported a record third-quarter profit on Thursday 15 October 2026, CNBC reports. Net profit climbed 68.7 per cent on a year earlier to NT$763.1 billion. That is its sixth record quarter in a row.

Revenue came to NT$1.49 trillion, or $46.36 billion, above analysts’ forecasts. Chips for data centres and other high-performance computing made up 68 per cent of it. TSMC expects fourth-quarter revenue of $52.3 billion to $54.3 billion. Its second Arizona plant is built and being fitted with equipment; TSMC expects mass production there from the third quarter of 2027, slightly earlier than it first planned.

Its shares still slipped 2 per cent, SiliconANGLE reports, as investors dumped AI shares after a post on X about the debts of CoreWeave, an AI cloud provider. Spending on new plants and equipment goes up sharply over the next two years, TSMC told investors.

Even after checking that customers can afford and install what they order, TSMC finds orders outrunning its factories, a SemiAnalysis analyst told CNBC. Much of the AI you pay for runs on chips from that tight supply.
