Nano Banana alternatives
Verdict on Nano Banana alternatives
Five tools replace Nano Banana for product ads, each on one job: GPT Image 2, Ideogram, Midjourney, Firefly and Photoroom. On Google’s API, a 1K Nano Banana 2 image costs $0.067 at the standard rate (checked ).
The catch is that many apps sold as alternatives resell Nano Banana itself, at up to 7.5 times Google’s rate if every credit is used.
For headline text inside the image:
ChatGPT (GPT Image)
OpenAI assigns you its rights in output, and its sharing policy asks that social posts mark content as AI-generated.
For text layers you can edit, and an ad resizer:
Ideogram
Click a generated line to fix it without regenerating. Free images are public; private generation starts on Plus.
For one house style held across a set:
Midjourney
Style references and moodboards. Companies above 1 million dollars a year in revenue must be on Pro or Mega to own images.
For a written commercial-safety statement:
Adobe Firefly
Adobe calls outputs of its Firefly models safe for commercial use. The statement names Firefly models only.
For staging your real product photos at a fixed price per export:
Photoroom
Pro includes 1,000 exports a month. Its free licence is personal and non-commercial.

Why people look for a Nano Banana alternative
Google changes the model under the name. 5 of 38 sources report swaps and quiet downgrades, with the original deprecated (Reddit, Reddit). Google’s deprecations page lists 2 October 2026 as the shutdown date for the original API model, gemini-2.5-flash-image.
Refusals come next, 5 of 38: users’ own faces flagged as public figures and a logo refused (Reddit, Reddit). Each alternative below runs its own content policy.
Paying Gemini subscribers report smaller or compressed downloads, 4 of 38 (Reddit, Reddit). Gemini app plans publish no image count, and free downloads stop at 1K.
Many alternatives sell Nano Banana itself
Six apps sold as alternatives price Nano Banana on their own credits. Pixelcut Pro charges the most, 7.5 times Google’s API rate for a 1K Nano Banana 2 image.
| Reseller and plan | Model | Cost an image | Multiple of Google’s rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gemini API, standard | Nano Banana 2, 1K | $0.067 | 1.0 |

Method: plan price divided by its monthly credits, times the credits the reseller lists for one image. Multiples compare Google’s standard rate for the same model. Higgsfield also sells Nano Banana, but its plan prices are unverified, so it has no row. The Higgsfield profile and the Pencil profile read each plan.

GPT Image 2: text inside the image, and OpenAI assigns you the output
GPT Image 2 runs in ChatGPT and on OpenAI’s API. At medium quality and 1024x1024, the API charges $0.053 an image, against $0.067 for Nano Banana 2 at 1K on the standard tier. Nano Banana 2 in batch and Lite cost less; GPT Image 2 at high quality, $0.211, costs more than Nano Banana Pro.
OpenAI’s terms assign you “all our right, title, and interest, if any, in and to Output”. Its sharing policy asks that social posts mark content as AI-generated. Since Images 2.0, 2 of 34 sources call its text legible (TechCrunch, YouTube). Edits that ignore instructions come up in 7 of 34 sources, all on Trustpilot.
- Best for
- Hooks, copy and the matching image in one chat, plus API images at $0.053 each (medium quality, 1024x1024).
- Not for
- Anyone who needs a published image quota per plan, or pixel-exact brand fonts and layouts without a finishing pass in a design tool.
Ideogram: editable text layers for headline statics
Ideogram generates statics with the headline in the image, then lets you edit that text as a layer. Its Ad Resizer reformats one image for each placement. Readable text is why users choose it, 8 of 61 sources (YouTube, YouTube).
Its terms (2.1) do “not restrict your ability to use User Output for your own purposes (including for commercial purposes)”, and 6.2(P) bars “false or misleading” output. Plan prices are Unverified (archived page, 8 September 2026).
- Best for
- Statics with a headline or offer inside the image, using its editable text layers and Ad Resizer.
- Not for
- Private images on the free plan (Free generations are public), or self-hosting the open Ideogram 4.0 weights commercially without buying the self-hosting licence.
Midjourney: one style across a set, public below Pro
Midjourney holds a look across images through style references and moodboards, which 3 of 47 sources name as its edge over Nano Banana (Reddit, Reddit). It meters GPU hours, so no price per image exists.
Plan prices are Unverified (archived page, 20 September 2026). It lists no official API.
- Best for
- Mood, lifestyle and background imagery steered by style references and moodboards, with the real product composited afterwards.
- Not for
- Teams that need an official API, or private generations without paying for Pro ($60 a month) or Mega (Stealth mode).
Adobe Firefly: a commercial-safety statement for Firefly models
Adobe Firefly is the one tool here whose vendor states in writing that “Outputs from Adobe Firefly AI models are safe for commercial use” (plans page). Eligible enterprise customers can get IP indemnification.
The statement names Firefly models only; partner models inside Firefly fall under Adobe’s third-party terms (General Terms 3.12). Standard lists $9.99 a month for 2,000 credits, with no per-image rate on the plan card.
- Best for
- Brands whose legal teams want Adobe’s statement that Firefly-model outputs are commercially safe, and enterprise buyers eligible for IP indemnification.
- Not for
- Buyers who assume that statement also covers partner models; as published, it names Adobe Firefly models only.
Photoroom: your own product photo, staged, at a fixed export price
Photoroom works from your photo of the real product: cut-out, shadow, background. Pro lists $12.99 a month for 1,000 exports, $0.013 each if every export is used (pricing page).
Its free licence is “for your own personal, non commercial purposes”, and uploads train its products unless you opt out. Photoroom alternatives compares the product-photo tools for that route.
- Best for
- High-volume product image clean-up and staging for catalogues and ads, from a phone or in batch, at $0.013 per export on Pro monthly.
- Not for
- Free-plan use in ads (the free licence is personal and non-commercial), or finished ad layouts with copy and offers.
Flair: a model trained on your product
Flair.ai trains a custom model on 6 to 10 photos of your product. Pro+ lists $35 a month for 80 images, $0.44 each if every image is used (pricing page).
Images made below Scale join a public gallery that “other Flair users may also use” commercially (terms). Credits run out after a handful of images for 8 of 24 sources, all on Trustpilot.
- Best for
- E-commerce brands needing lifestyle and on-model shots of a physical product, from a custom model trained on 6 to 10 photos.
- Not for
- Brands that do not want their product images in a public gallery that other users may reuse commercially, unless they pay for Scale.
Is there a free Nano Banana alternative for ads?
Three free tiers allow ads with conditions: ChatGPT Free, Ideogram Free and Firefly’s free daily generations. Nano Banana’s own free use is unclear.
ChatGPT Free gives “Limited and slower image generation”. Its sharing policy asks you to “Indicate that the content is AI-generated in a way no user could reasonably miss or misunderstand”.
Ideogram Free gives weekly slow credits, and its images are published to the community by default. Firefly’s free daily generations come with no stated allowance, and the commercial-safety statement covers Firefly models only.
Google says only that it “won’t claim ownership” of what Nano Banana makes (terms). The AI commercial use matrix holds every clause.
Open-weight models you run yourself
Qwen-Image’s model card says “Qwen-Image is licensed under Apache 2.0”, a licence that allows commercial use. The newer Qwen-Image-2.1 is a different case: its model card says it “is licensed under the Qwen Research License Agreement”. Qwen-Image has 20 billion parameters, and the card states no minimum graphics memory.
FLUX.2 [dev] ships under the “FLUX Non-Commercial License” (model card). The card says outputs “can be used for personal, scientific, and commercial purposes, as described in the FLUX [dev] Non-Commercial License”, and names an RTX 4090 or 5090 for local use. Neither has a row in our database, so neither gets a price here.
Left out, and why
The Gemini app and Flow sell the same model under Google’s terms. Grok Imagine’s terms say “you are required to obtain our permission and attribute your generation of the Output to the Service” (archived terms, 21 September 2026, s.4).
Leonardo.Ai Free keeps ownership: rights in Output “will vest in us upon creation” (archived terms, 18 September 2026, 8.7). Paid plans vest them in you (8.3).
