Best AI ad image generators
Verdict on AI image generators for ads
The best AI ad image generator depends on your ad job, and only Leonardo’s entry plan grants ad use outright. Last checked
Of 11 image-model makers, 8 allow ads on their cheapest paid plan, 7 of them with conditions. Google’s, xAI’s and ByteDance’s consumer terms leave it unclear.
For headlines and offers inside the image:
Ideogram
Editable text layers and an Ad Resizer. Terms 6.2(P) bar output that is “false or misleading”.
For putting your real product into new scenes:
Nano Banana (Google Gemini image models)
Takes up to 10 object references in one prompt. Google’s terms neither grant nor limit ad use, so it is unclear.
For one look across a set of images:
Midjourney
Style references and moodboards. Basic and Standard images are public; companies above a million dollars a year in revenue need Pro or Mega to own them.
For ad use granted outright on the cheapest paid plan:
Leonardo.Ai
Essential output vests in you (terms 8.3). Free output vests in Leonardo (8.7).
For the lowest per-image price at a model maker:
ChatGPT (GPT Image)
GPT Image 1 Mini and GPT Image 2 at low quality on OpenAI’s API, 1024x1024. Its policy asks you to mark social posts as AI-generated.

How this list was built
Can you run AI images as paid ads?
Yes on 8 makers’ cheapest paid plans, 7 of them with conditions. Google’s, xAI’s and ByteDance’s consumer terms leave it unclear.
Leonardo is the one maker whose entry plan grants it with no condition. ChatGPT, Midjourney, Ideogram, Adobe Firefly, Luma, FLUX and Recraft attach a condition. Nano Banana and Grok Imagine’s consumer plans sit under terms that say nothing either way about ads. Grok Imagine’s row in the table reads its API, the one Grok plan with a public price, whose enterprise terms allow ad use.
Seedream’s app, Dreamina, is a third case. Outside the US, its terms bar ads on the free tier and leave paid plans unclear. They point to further commercial terms “if permitted”, and no such terms sit on its public pages.

xAI’s sentence goes on to name its brand elements, “SpaceXAI’s name, logos, trademarks”. As written, its permission duty still reaches every use of output.
Google’s Generative AI Prohibited Use Policy still applies to Nano Banana output, and Google’s terms bar “misleading others into thinking that generative AI content was created by a human”. Every clause, plan by plan, sits on the rights matrix, and the hub covers who owns the output of template ad tools.
What one image costs at the maker
One 1024 by 1024 image costs from $0.005 (GPT Image 1 Mini, low) to $0.211 (GPT Image 2, high). Those are the makers’ API list prices (OpenAI guide, Gemini API pricing, FLUX pricing, Recraft API pricing, ModelArk price list). Nano Banana 2.1, Google’s update to Nano Banana 2, costs the same as 2 Lite at 1K.
These are standard-tier prices for the output alone. Prompt text bills on top. So do reference images.
| Model maker, quality | Per image (USD) |
|---|---|
| GPT Image 1 Mini OpenAI, low; an older model | $0.005 |
| GPT Image 2 OpenAI, low | $0.006 |
| Recraft V4.1 Flash Recraft, raster | $0.007 |
| FLUX 3 Image Klein Black Forest Labs, 1K | $0.009 |
| Seedream 5.0 Flash ByteDance, 1K; API not offered in the US | $0.018 |
| Nano Banana 2.1 Google, 1K | $0.034 |
| Nano Banana 2 Lite Google, 1K | $0.034 |
| Recraft V4.1 Recraft, raster | $0.035 |

Batch mode halves Google’s prices (Gemini API pricing). OpenAI’s guide lists no per-image figure for its newest models, GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst and Flare.
Midjourney, Ideogram, Adobe Firefly and Leonardo state no image count on their plans, and Dreamina states no Seedream credit cost on its public pricing page. Pixelcut, a template tool covered on the hub, charges up to 27 times the maker’s price. That holds if every credit is used: the shop-by-shop table has the multiples.
The image models, one by one
Nano Banana (Google): your product in new scenes
Nano Banana 2 takes “Up to 10 images of objects with high-fidelity to include in the final image”, and Nano Banana Pro up to 6 (Gemini docs). That is the feature behind product edits. 5 of 38 user sources say product shots stay faithful to the real item (r/nanobanana, r/nanobanana).
Ad terms are unclear on every plan, app and API alike. Google’s terms say it won’t claim ownership of what you make, and they set no ad-use rule.
On the API, Google’s image docs say “Recommended for all new projects to use Nano Banana 2.1” (Gemini docs). A 1K Nano Banana 2.1 image costs $0.034, half that in batch mode (Gemini API pricing).
Google says “All generated images include a SynthID watermark”, a mark hidden in the pixels. The hub’s Nano Banana section covers the model shutdown; Nano Banana for product photography covers prompts.
- Best for
- Editing your own product photo into new scenes, and high-volume API generation at a stated price per image ($0.067 at 1K).
- Not for
- Teams that need a fixed, guaranteed image quota on a subscription, or a finished ad layout with brand fonts without a design pass afterwards.
ChatGPT (GPT Image): copy and image in one chat
ChatGPT writes the hook and draws the static in one conversation. 5 of 34 user sources say it turns a product photo or a reference ad into a static they could run (r/canva, r/FacebookAds).
One catch users report: 7 of 34 say edits change parts of the image that should stay put (Trustpilot, Trustpilot).
Ads are allowed with a condition on every plan: mark social posts as AI-generated. Subscription image limits are published as words such as “More image creation”, never as counts.
- Best for
- Hooks, copy and the matching image in one chat, plus API images at $0.053 each (medium quality, 1024x1024).
- Not for
- Anyone who needs a published image quota per plan, or pixel-exact brand fonts and layouts without a finishing pass in a design tool.
Midjourney: one look across a set
Style references and moodboards hold a look from image to image. 3 of 47 user sources credit them with keeping a set consistent (r/midjourney, r/midjourney). 13 of 47 choose Midjourney for its stylised look (r/midjourney, G2).
Basic at $10 a month allows ads only below the revenue line, and its images are public (plan comparison, checked ).
5 of 47 sources say users who need literal product images move to Nano Banana or GPT Image (r/midjourney, r/midjourney). Its clauses in full: the Midjourney section on the hub.
- Best for
- Mood, lifestyle and background imagery steered by style references and moodboards, with the real product composited afterwards.
- Not for
- Teams that need an official API, or private generations without paying for Pro ($60 a month) or Mega (Stealth mode).
Ideogram: words inside the picture
8 of 61 user sources choose Ideogram for readable text in the image (YouTube, YouTube). Its editable text layers fix a typo without a new generation.
6 of 61 still report misspelt or jumbled words on some prompts (Trustpilot, r/ideogramai).
Its terms allow commercial use and make no ownership claim over your output (2.1).
The Ad Resizer is the one Ideogram tool priced per output. Each credit costs $0.02, and a 1024 by 1024 resize takes 1 credit at low quality, 4 at medium and 14.25 at high (Ad Resizer).
- Best for
- Statics with a headline or offer inside the image, using its editable text layers and Ad Resizer.
- Not for
- Private images on the free plan (Free generations are public), or self-hosting the open Ideogram 4.0 weights commercially without buying the self-hosting licence.
Adobe Firefly: a commercial-safety statement
Adobe calls output from its own Firefly models safe for commercial use (plans page). The same plans also run partner models. Their output falls under General Terms 3.12, which make that use a matter between you and the model’s maker.
Firefly Standard at $9.99 a month gives 2,000 credits a month and states no image count.
- Best for
- Brands whose legal teams want Adobe’s statement that Firefly-model outputs are commercially safe, and enterprise buyers eligible for IP indemnification.
- Not for
- Buyers who assume that statement also covers partner models; as published, it names Adobe Firefly models only.
Leonardo: ad use on the entry plan
Essential, the entry paid plan, is the cheapest plan here whose terms grant ad use with no condition, and it keeps creations private. Its plan card lists 8,500 fast tokens a month (pricing, read 19 October 2026).
Leonardo Free gives the output away: ownership vests in Leonardo (8.7), and the images are public.
- Best for
- Teams already making ad images in Leonardo who want to animate the same assets, on a paid plan with private mode on.
- Not for
- Free-plan users making ad work: the terms (January 2026 version, archived copy) give Leonardo ownership of free-plan outputs, and free generations are public.
Grok Imagine (xAI): fast batches, unclear consumer terms
5 of 37 user sources say images arrive in batches almost instantly (r/grok, YouTube). 12 of 37 call Imagine Image 2.0 a downgrade, citing plastic skin and pasted-looking backgrounds (r/grok, r/grok).
Ad use is unclear on consumer plans and allowed under xAI’s enterprise API terms.
- Best for
- Developers who want a per-second video API from $0.08 at 480p.
- Not for
- Ads made on consumer Grok plans: terms s.4 can be read to require xAI’s permission and a credit to the service whenever you use Output (archived copy, September 2026).
Luma: images on a video plan
Luma sells its Uni-1 image model on the same credits as its Ray video models, from Plus at $30 a month (checked , Luma pricing). Commercial use covers only what you make during an active paid subscription, and Luma may train on paid-plan output (4.9). Trial-credit output is for “internal evaluation and testing”.
- Best for
- Paid users who want Ray3.2’s shot control and HDR or EXR output alongside third-party models on one credit balance.
- Not for
- Brands that cannot let Luma train on their outputs: the terms take a perpetual licence over outputs made on a paid plan or outside one (4.9).
FLUX (Black Forest Labs): edits that leave the rest alone
FLUX is Black Forest Labs’ image model family, sold per image through its API and Playground app. FLUX 3 Image takes up to ten reference images, and you mark boxes in the prompt to place or replace one item. 5 of 16 user sources say its edits leave the rest of the picture alone (r/FluxAI, r/FluxAI).
One 1K image costs $0.048 per image. A 4K image costs $0.607, about 13 times as much. 3 of 16 sources say it reads style words literally, so illustrations needed reworded prompts (r/FluxAI, a developer’s GitHub pull request).
The API terms allow commercial use of outputs (4(b)). They bar deepfakes of a real person without written consent (3(b)). You may not strip Content Credentials, the label in the file that records how it was made (6(i)).
The Playground’s site terms say only that you may use outputs “for your own purposes” (Terms of Service 1.2(a)).
- Best for
- A pay-per-image API for ad visuals, from $0.008 to $0.607 an image by model and size, with multi-reference and bounding-box edits.
- Not for
- Buyers who want a subscription app with templates, a brand kit or an ad layout editor, or who want a free tier to test before paying.
Recraft: vector files and one custom style
Recraft makes editable SVG files, the vector format logos and icons need, and custom styles built from your own reference images. 3 of 43 user sources use it for vector logos and sticker sets (App Store, r/Recraft). 2 of 43 say a custom style keeps a set consistent (r/Recraft, r/Recraft).
Paid plans give you ownership (terms 7.2), with Recraft’s metadata and watermarks left in place (8.2). Free images belong to Recraft, sit in a public gallery and keep that status after you upgrade (7.1).
Basic at $12 a month works out at $0.024 per V4.1 image if every credit is used. One catch users report: 10 of 43 say refunds were refused after a short trial or a few generations (Trustpilot, App Store).
- Best for
- Logos, icons and flat illustration that need editable SVG, and ad sets that reuse one custom style built from 1 to 10 reference images.
- Not for
- Commercial use on the Free plan (Free outputs are public and owned by Recraft), and buyers who expect a refund once credits are spent.
Seedream (ByteDance): text in other languages, outside the US
Seedream is ByteDance’s image model, sold in the Dreamina app and through BytePlus’s ModelArk API. ModelArk’s tutorial lists native in-image text in 14 additional languages, Spanish, French and Japanese among them. The API also splits one image into a base and up to 16 transparent PNG layers.
The API terms say “To the extent permitted by applicable law … you own the Output” (BytePlus AI terms 2.1). The API stamps an “AI-generated” mark in the lower-right corner unless you turn it off (API reference). BytePlus’s Acceptable Use Policy requires AI notices and bars concealing the labels the service adds. ModelArk is not offered in the United States.
Outside the US, Dreamina’s terms bar ads on the free tier and leave paid plans unclear. US users fall under separate Dreamina US terms that no public URL served on 15 October 2026.
Seedream 5.0 Pro costs $0.045 an image at 1.5K or below. The API’s default 2K size bills at twice that.
- Best for
- Teams outside the US calling an image API at a stated price per image ($0.045 for 5.0 Pro), or needing editable layers and non-English text.
- Not for
- US-based buyers who need the API, which ModelArk does not offer in the US, and anyone running paid ads from Dreamina outside the US before reading its terms, which bar commercial and advertising use.
Several models on one balance
Four apps host several of these models on one subscription, each under its own terms. Prices below divide the plan price by the images its card states, if every credit is used.
| App and plan | Ad terms | One Nano Banana image (USD) |
|---|---|---|
| Krea Basic | Allowed with conditions; Krea may change commercial-use terms “at any time” | $0.14 |
| OpenArt Plus; Starter is non-commercial | Allowed (terms 4.1) | $0.113 |
| Picsart Pro | Allowed with conditions: “any legal purpose” | $0.15 |
| FLORA Starter, per seat | Allowed: “you own all rights, title, and interest” | $0.151 |

Krea’s and FLORA’s figures are for Nano Banana 2; OpenArt’s and Picsart’s are for Nano Banana Pro at 1K. Picsart’s other routes are on the hub’s Picsart section.
Image generation inside Meta and Google Ads
Meta’s Advantage+ creative makes new backgrounds and text variants of an ad inside Ads Manager. Its terms let you use that output “anywhere on Meta Company Products”, so the images stay on Meta (Meta terms, archived). The hub’s Advantage+ section has the detail.
Since 1 June 2026 Meta detects signals such as C2PA in ads made with third-party AI tools and can label them “AI info”. Meta’s AI disclosure rules cover when that label appears and when the duty is yours.
Google put Nano Banana Pro into Google Ads’ Asset Studio for Performance Max and Demand Gen campaigns in November 2025, PPC Land reports. For tools that also run the campaign, see AI tools for Meta ads.
Free AI ad image generators
Free plans split three ways on ads. ChatGPT Free and Ideogram Free allow them with conditions, and Ideogram’s free images are public. Leonardo Free and Recraft Free bar them: the output belongs to the maker. Outside the US, Dreamina’s terms bar them on the free tier and leave paid plans unclear.
Nano Banana’s free Gemini app tier is unclear, like its paid plans. Adobe gives free daily generations without a plan, with no stated allowance. Midjourney, Luma and FLUX have no free plan. 2 of 37 Grok sources report image generation behind paid plans since 19 March 2026 (r/grok, Alloy Press).
Free video and copy tools for ads are on free AI ad generators.
Template tools and product-photo editors
Template ad tools and ad generators sit on the static ads hub. Product-photo editors have their own list.
