What Ideogram makes for ads

Ideogram is an image generator sold on text rendering: the headline or price drawn into the picture.

Editable text layers fix that text after generation. Press Layerize Text and “every line of text becomes its own editable component”, so you retype a headline without re-prompting (text layers page). It runs on every plan, Free included, and through the API. Ideogram calls it a beta that “works best with clear, straight text in standard typography”.

The Ad Resizer turns one upload into presets for Instagram posts, Stories and Reels, Facebook feed, YouTube, connected TV, print and IAB display sizes. “Instead of cropping or stretching, it reads where the subject, logo, and copy sit” and extends the background (Ad Resizer page).

Ideogram 4.5 is an edit model: Ideogram calls it “The most precise edit model” and says it keeps details stable across several rounds of edits (model page).

Ideogram’s MCP page lists a Background Remover and an Object Remover among its apps, and its MCP server adds Ideogram to AI assistants. The Character Reference setting keeps “facial features, hairstyles, and other key traits” consistent across images (help page). Our static ad tools hub sets it beside the other image generators.

What Ideogram costs

Private images start on Plus at $20 a month for 1,000 priority credits, or $15 billed yearly (pricing page). Prices exclude tax.

Ideogram plans from its pricing page, read 2 Oct 2026
Plan Monthly (USD) Billed yearly, per month (USD) Priority credits a month
Free 0 0 None; weekly slow credits for eligible accounts
Plus $20 $15 1,000
Pro $60 $42 3,500
Team per user, 2 users minimum $30 $20 1,500 per user

A priority credit starts the generation at once. Paid plans also get unlimited slow credits, which wait in a queue “based on server capacity and usage”. Editing with AI and Image Reference need priority credits. Unused subscription credits “expire at the end of each billing cycle”; top-up credits carry over.

Credits per image depend on “the Model and Rendering settings you choose”, the pricing FAQ says. Its per-model credit table loads by script and did not load on 2 October 2026.

The Ad Resizer page prints its own estimates, each for one source image, a typical text prompt and one generated output. A 1024 × 1024 resize at medium quality is an estimated 4.00 credits, or $0.08, at $0.02 a credit.

That credit value matches Plus’s monthly price per priority credit ($20 for 1,000), if every credit is used (pricing page).

On Pro billed yearly, $42 a month buys 3,500 priority credits (pricing page). If every credit is used, a priority credit works out at $0.012, 40 per cent under the Ad Resizer’s figure. The Ad Resizer page does not say its credit and a priority credit are one unit.

Ideogram's Ad Resizer price table: each in-app credit equals USD $0.02, and a 1024 × 1024 resize lists 1.00 credit at low quality, 4.00 at medium and 14.25 at high

Is Ideogram free?

Ideogram has a free plan and no free trial: eligible free accounts get weekly slow credits, and “the amount may vary”. The pricing FAQ says: “We don’t offer discounts or free trials for subscription plans.” Free runs one generation at a time.

Free images are public. “By default, all images on Ideogram are published”, the FAQ says. Plus and Pro subscribers can generate unpublished images and delete images; Team includes everything in Plus.

For a client’s unreleased product or an offer that is not live yet, Plus is Ideogram’s cheapest private plan at list price. In 4 of 61 user sources, the free plan is too thin to judge the product before paying (Trustpilot, Reddit).

What Ideogram’s terms say about ad text

Not legal advice This section quotes Ideogram’s Terms of Service (last revised 14 August 2024) and Privacy Policy (15 January 2025), read on 2 October 2026. Ask a lawyer before you rely on any reading here.

Ideogram’s Terms of Service let you use what you make commercially: “we do not restrict your ability to use User Output for your own purposes (including for commercial purposes)” (2.1). Ideogram also assigns you any rights it acquires in that output. Our rights matrix marks paid ads Allowed with conditions on every plan.

The conditions sit in 6.2. Under 6.2(P) you may not generate output that is “(vi) political, (vii) spam, (viii) false or misleading”, or that “(x) attempts to impersonate another person”. Under 6.2(H) you may not “remove any watermarks included on any User Output”; the terms do not say which plans carry a watermark.

Watch out The headline and offer drawn into an Ideogram image are User Output, so 6.2(P) covers them as it covers the prompt. A suspension for “a breach or suspected breach” ends paid access at once, and “you will not be entitled to any refunds whatsoever” (2.6).

Section 6.2(E) bars exploiting “the Services for any commercial purpose, including without limitation communicating or facilitating any commercial advertisement or solicitation, except as expressly permitted by the Services”.

Section 6.1 adds: “For the avoidance of doubt, Your Content is not part of the ‘Services,’ as defined in these Terms”. Section 2.1 counts your User Output as Your Content. Read with 6.1, 6.2(E) reaches the Services themselves, and the images you generate sit outside it.

The pricing FAQ says of generated images that you’re “free to use them for any purpose, including commercial use”.

Public images can be remixed: other users may “use, reproduce, modify” them unless they are Private Content (4.2). For client work, output “may not be unique”, since others can prompt the same thing (2.1).

The Privacy Policy counts uploaded images, a client’s product shots included, as User Input and lists “training the models that power our Services” among its uses.

Ideogram 4.0 open weights and their licence

Ideogram 4 is Ideogram’s first open-weight model, released on 3 June 2026 with 9.3 billion parameters (Hugging Face). Both published weight files carry the “Ideogram 4 Non-Commercial” licence, and the download is gated behind accepting its conditions.

Ideogram’s licensing page offers the weights free under the Non-Commercial Model Agreement, with the inference code on GitHub under Apache 2.0. Commercial self-hosting is the “Self-Serve Commercial License” at $300 a month for 10,000 images. Above 100,000 images a month, it is Enterprise.

The agreement (3 June 2026) grants the weights for “Non-Commercial Purposes” only (2). Section 1(d) defines four kinds; the first is use that “does not directly or indirectly generate revenue”, and another covers a company’s evaluation outside live systems.

The closing line of 1(d) excludes any use “that involves generating Output to include in, or to advertise or promote, revenue-generating products or services”.

The licensing page’s table marks “Production and commercial use” as “Not permitted” for the open weights, while its FAQ answers “Yes” to “Can I use Ideogram outputs commercially?”, “as long as you respect third-party rights and follow the Acceptable Use Policy”.

Section 1(d) names ad output from the free weights outright, and the gated download asks you to accept that agreement.

In 4 of 61 user sources, the open model asks for JSON prompts and a large GPU. Its licence bars commercial use of the download (YouTube, GoEnhance).

What 61 Ideogram reviews say, from Trustpilot to Reddit

Our Ideogram synthesis counts 61 public sources from 1 September 2025 to 25 September 2026, checked 28 September 2026. They are 20 Trustpilot reviews, 18 Reddit posts, 14 App Store reviews, 7 YouTube videos, a blog post and a news article. Almost none of the 61 sources reports running the images as paid social ads.

The 18 Reddit posts, all from r/ideogramai, run from 1 September 2025 to 18 July 2026.

Readable text draws the most praise. In 8 of 61 sources, users’ logos and posters come out spelt right where other generators garble words (YouTube, App Store). Another 3 praise editing controls, text layers among them (Reddit, YouTube). In this video a creator fixes a typo on a text layer.

A creator clicks a line of generated text in Ideogram to fix a typo and change the font without regenerating the image Video: Ideogram AI Review 2026 – The AI That Finally Gets Text Right (4.0 & Editable Layers Tested), Tech Storm on YouTube, .

The same strength fails on some requests: 6 of 61 report ignored prompts or text still misspelt or jumbled (Trustpilot, Reddit).

Money draws the most complaints, in 10 of 61 sources. They name wrong charges, an annual plan pushed at checkout, extra credits on paid plans and no credits back for rejected images (Trustpilot, Reddit). Support splits: 7 Trustpilot reviewers praise fast answers and refunds (Trustpilot), while 2 users say support never replied (Reddit, App Store).

In 6 of 61 sources, model changes broke styles people relied on, or older models vanished without notice (Reddit, Reddit).
