Nvidia weighs backing loans for Nscale’s Anthropic data centre
The chipmaker is in talks to guarantee billions in debt for a West Virginia site Anthropic has signed up to use, The Information reports.
Nvidia is in talks to guarantee billions of dollars of loans for Nscale, a British AI cloud company, so it can finance the power and construction of a data centre campus in West Virginia that Anthropic has agreed to use, The Information reported on 29 October 2026. If Nscale missed construction payments, Nvidia would run the campus for a while and look for a new owner and tenant, TechCrunch reports. Nvidia’s earlier backing for cloud firms went mainly to chips and leases, and stopped short of paying for construction.
The deal is not signed and its terms could change, Proactive Investors notes, quoting Wedbush analysts who see such support keeping data centre projects funded and chip orders flowing. Anthropic has signed a $44.6 billion contract for the campus’s first 460-megawatt building, according to Nscale’s listing papers, and the two are discussing a second deal of similar size. By August Nscale had switched on about 25,000 advanced chips, roughly one in twenty of the nearly 500,000 it plans to deploy.
For TechCrunch, a chipmaker co-signing a customer’s loans shows the strain on AI building budgets as investors baulk at the amounts.
Runpod’s Pod rates have not moved. Our cloud GPU table, checked on 30 October, holds its H100 SXM Pod at $3.99 an hour on Secure Cloud and $2.69 on Community Cloud, though its serverless H100 rate rose from $4.79 to $5.39 an hour that day.
Nvidia’s talks about backing a customer’s construction loans put the strain in financing new sites, and a small team renting an H100 Pod on Runpod paid the same through our 30 October check, even as the serverless rate rose.
