Roblox says AI-built games push developers to buy ads

Over 80 per cent of Roblox’s top 100 games used AI in the past month, and its chief executive says more developers now pay for traffic.

More Roblox developers are paying for ads to bring in players, chief executive David Baszucki told analysts on 29 October 2026, calling it “an inflection point” for the ad system as AI tools speed up game-making on the platform, according to the call transcript.

Daily uploads of images, textures and 3D models to Roblox’s cloud had tripled month on month, Baszucki said. Over the past month AI had a hand in more than 80 per cent of the top 100 games ranked by hours played, and during the quarter two games made almost entirely with AI broke into the top 20 by players online at once. Sponsored ads now run in over 70 per cent of the top 100 games, but Roblox put no number on what developers spend and keeps ad revenue inside its wider results, PPC Land notes.

Roblox also told investors it expects lower fourth-quarter bookings, the money players spend on its virtual currency, and its shares dropped about 17 per cent after hours.

Making an ad clip has become cheap in the same way. Our 31 October check prices Veo 3.1 Fast at $0.10 a second at 720p on Google’s API, so an eight-second clip comes to $0.80, with Kling 3.0’s API at $0.084 a second without audio.

Baszucki’s account runs in one direction: AI tools cut the cost of building a game, and the developers using them now buy traffic through Roblox’s sponsored ads, so on that platform the money moves from making the game to getting it seen.
