TikTok adds an AI shopping agent and one-click checkout
Shopping Assistant answers product questions and completes the sale in a chat; Buy Direct lets viewers pay a brand from the For You feed.
TikTok announced two buying tools on Monday 5 October 2026 in an advertiser update. Shopping Assistant is a conversational AI agent that guides a user from question to purchase. Buy Direct is a checkout that lets people pay a brand without leaving the app.
The assistant handles product details, shipping, sizing and stock, and can close the sale inside the same conversation, The Next Web reports. It adds that TikTok gave no launch date. TechCrunch says Buy Direct works with one click from the For You feed, and that Salesforce, Shopify, Shoplazza and Stripe are among the partners building both. It cites an eMarketer estimate of about $15.8 billion in US TikTok Shop sales in 2025, roughly 18% of US social commerce.
The same update opens the TikTok Ad Network to US advertisers, covering nearly 400,000 apps outside TikTok, and adds Agentic Leads, an AI agent that qualifies prospects in a chat. TikTok frames the set as the start of what it calls agentic commerce.
For brands selling on TikTok, the path from video to payment shortens to one tap, and the product questions a page used to answer move into an AI chat.
