Midjourney for AI product photography

Verdict on Midjourney

Midjourney suits styled product scenes; firms above a million dollars in yearly revenue own them only on Pro or Mega. Its terms extend that rule to employees, and images stay public unless Stealth, on Pro and Mega only, is switched on. Pro, the first plan with Stealth, lists $60 a month, unverified, on the plan page archived 20 September 2026 (checked ).

What Midjourney does for product ads

Midjourney makes images and short videos from text and image prompts, steered by style references and moodboards. For a product ad, that means the scene and the light around the product.

V8.1 became the default model on 11 June 2026. Midjourney says it “better adheres to detailed prompts, and renders text better than ever”, and that HD renders at “4x the resolution of V7 images” (V8.1 post).

The V8.2 edit model launched on 27 August 2026. It edits images “with instructions”, takes “up to 4 image references at once” and paints inside or beyond the frame (edit model post). That is how a product photo enters a Midjourney scene.

None of Midjourney’s posts promises that the product comes back exact. And 5 of 47 user sources hand practical, literal images to Nano Banana or GPT Image (Reddit, YouTube). Its docs and update feed list no official API, and section 1 of the terms bars automated access.

Photoroom for ads starts from your own product photo: it cuts the product out and stages it in a generated scene.

Midjourney pricing: what each plan buys

Midjourney sells four plans, from $10 to $120 a month, metered in Fast GPU hours. A company above a million dollars a year in revenue and its staff start at Pro, as does anyone who needs Stealth. Pro costs $60 a month, or $48 a month billed yearly. The prices are unverified and come from the plan page as archived on 20 September 2026.

Midjourney plans, unverified, from its plan comparison page as archived on 20 Sep 2026
Plan Monthly (USD) Billed yearly (USD a month) Fast GPU time a month Relax mode Stealth mode
Basic $10 $8 3.3 hours None No
Standard $30 $24 15 hours Unlimited images No
Pro $60 $48 30 hours Unlimited images and SD video Yes
Mega $120 $96 60 hours Unlimited images and SD video Yes

Extra Fast time costs $4 an hour on every plan, and yearly billing takes 20 per cent off, paid upfront (plan page). Basic and Standard run 3 image jobs at once; Pro and Mega run 12 in Fast mode.

The plan page turns none of these hours into images, so no cost per image can be worked out. Money complaints come up in 10 of 47 sources, from fast hours used up in days to charges after cancelling (Trustpilot, The Decoder).

Watch out Images are public by default on every plan. The plan page says Stealth mode, “which keeps your images and videos private, is only available on the Pro and Mega Plans”. So an unreleased product shot made on Basic or Standard, or on Pro or Mega with Stealth off, is visible to other users.

Midjourney’s plans sit beside every other tool’s, with the date each price was read, in the AI ad tool price tracker.

Is there a Midjourney free plan or trial?

Midjourney has no free plan, and no free trial on midjourney.com or Discord; only the niji · journey app has one. The Free Trials article (archived 6 September 2026) says: “A limited trial is available on the niji · journey app, available for iOS and Android devices.”

Niji is Midjourney’s model series for “Eastern and anime aesthetics and illustrative styles”, says its Version article (archived 31 July 2026).

Section 8 of the terms says “You are free to cancel Your plan at any time.” After Midjourney’s own right to end your access, the same section adds: “You will not be refunded for the current subscription period, but You will not be charged after the current subscription period has ended.”

Midjourney’s terms: who owns the images, and who can see them?

Not legal advice This section quotes Midjourney’s Terms of Service, effective 27 May 2026, from an archived copy of 29 September 2026. Ask a lawyer before you rely on any reading here.

Section 4 of Midjourney’s terms starts with “You own all Assets You create with the Services to the fullest extent possible under applicable law.” Three exceptions follow. The first: “Your ownership is subject to any obligations imposed by this Agreement and the rights of any third-parties.”

The second: “If you are a company or any employee of a company with more than $1,000,000 USD a year in revenue, you must be subscribed to a “Pro” or “Mega” plan to own Your Assets.” Section 4 does not say whether a freelancer or agency making images for a client above that line is covered.

The third: “If you upscale the images of others, these images remain owned by the original creators.”

Ownership “persists even if in subsequent months You downgrade or cancel Your membership.” The visibility rule sits in the same section: “By default, Your Content is publicly viewable and remixable.”

Stealth mode narrows that. Midjourney agrees “to make best efforts not to publish any Assets You make” with Stealth engaged, but images made “in a shared or open space, such as a Discord chatroom” stay viewable “regardless of whether Stealth mode is engaged”.

Stealth is a setting you switch on. The Stealth Mode article (archived 12 June 2026) says you can turn it “on or off through the settings panel”. An upgrade leaves earlier public images public until you make them private by hand.

You also grant Midjourney a “perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, sublicensable no-charge, royalty-free, irrevocable copyright license” over “the Content You input into the Services” and every Asset you make. A product photo you upload is input, so the licence covers it, and it “survives termination”.

Midjourney’s AB2013 statement (20 January 2026) lists “data our users provide through use of the Midjourney service” as a training source.

The AI commercial use matrix reads paid ads as Allowed on Pro and Mega and Allowed with conditions on Basic and Standard.

Midjourney for UGC-style ads

Midjourney offers no stock avatars, so every face in a UGC-style ad is generated or uploaded. Section 11 asks you to obtain “necessary permission from anyone who may be depicted in the content that you upload and edit using Editor, or input and generate using Video.”

Section 9 adds a line that reaches ads posing as real customers: “You may not intentionally mislead recipients of the Assets about their nature or source.” The FTC side of that question is in are AI UGC ads legal.

Hands, extra fingers, distorted people and plastic-looking skin appear in 7 of 47 sources (Reddit, G2). Five of 47 report that character consistency across shots trails Nano Banana and GPT Image, so they finish sequences there (Reddit, YouTube). One of them, Theoretically Media, styles images in V8 and finishes them in Nano Banana Pro.

What 47 user sources report about Midjourney

Users keep paying for Midjourney’s look and complain about control and billing. Our synthesis counts 47 public sources from 30 October 2025 to 25 September 2026. Of those, 18 are on Trustpilot, 16 on Reddit, 8 on G2 and 4 on YouTube, plus 1 news report.

The 16 Reddit posts come from r/midjourney and date from 17 July to 8 September 2026. The G2 reviews were read from an archived copy of 9 August 2026.

The look leads, in 13 of 47 sources: a stylised, cinematic finish for concept and marketing work (Reddit, G2). “Nothing else finds a look like it does,” a short-film maker writes.

Loose prompt following is the top complaint about the images, in 9 of 47: results vary and usable images take many rerolls (Reddit, Trustpilot).

Five of 47 call the August editor a real step up (YouTube, Reddit). Six report updates changing output they relied on, from V8.2’s plastic-looking skin to the editor degrading untouched areas at launch (Reddit, Reddit). On 24 September 2026 Midjourney said targeted edits now “change only the pixels that you’ve selected” (update).

Moderation blocks harmless prompts in 6 of 47 sources (Reddit, YouTube). Four report bans for suspected automation with little recourse (Reddit, Reddit).

Midjourney video renders in SD only on Basic and in SD or HD on the other plans. Only Pro and Mega include unlimited Relax video (plan page, archived 20 September 2026). Three of 47 sources find the clips short and basic (Trustpilot, Reddit).

Nano Banana, ChatGPT or Ideogram instead of Midjourney

Nano Banana, Google’s Gemini image models, edits your own product photo into new scenes. Google’s API prices each image, which Midjourney’s GPU hours never do: a 1K Nano Banana 2 image costs $0.067, checked (Nano Banana for product ads).

ChatGPT makes GPT Image pictures and the ad copy in one chat, and OpenAI’s API prices each image (ChatGPT image generator for ads).

Ideogram is marketed on text inside the image, with editable text layers and an ad resizer, for statics that carry a headline or offer. Ideogram’s free generations are public, as Midjourney images are by default (Ideogram for ads).
