Photoroom for ads
Verdict on Photoroom
Pay for Photoroom if you clean up product photos at volume; 12 of 76 user reviews praise its cut-outs. Pro’s 1,000 exports at $12.99 a month make $0.013 per export if every export is used, prices checked (pricing).
Free accounts, trials included (2.1.b, 2.6), are licensed for personal, non-commercial use, and the terms never say who owns generated images.
Photoroom
- Best for
- Online sellers and brands cleaning up their own product photos in bulk, on a paid plan whose monthly export cap covers their volume.
- Skip it if
- you edit clients’ photos as an agency. Terms 2.1.b cover your “own internal business purposes” and 2.5 bars storing content “on behalf of any third parties”: client work is unclear. Pebblely’s terms carry neither limit.

What Photoroom makes for ads
Photoroom is a product photo editor sold as a phone app, a web app, a Shopify app and an API. For ad images it cuts out the product, stages it in a scene, puts clothing on a generated model and turns photos into short videos.
Photoroom’s core tools cost no credits on paid plans: Background Remover, shadow presets, Retouch, AI Product Fixer, AI Fill, AI Expand/Resize and Image Enhancer. Its pricing FAQ says to use them “as much as you need within fair-use limits”. Every image saved from them still counts as one export.
AI Backgrounds Studio places the product in a generated scene, with optional image guidance, relighting or HD. AI Fashion Models dresses a garment on a generated model, at 1K on Pro, 2K from Max and 4K on Ultra.
The Video Generator starts at Max: up to 50 generations a month on Max and 150 on Ultra, if every credit goes to video. The Shopify integration starts at Max. API and MCP usage, including the connector for Claude, “use a separate allowance” from plan exports (pricing FAQ). Other clip makers sit in AI product video generators.
The AI ad cost calculator prices one video ad on the dedicated video tools, by ad length.
Photoroom pricing: plans, exports and AI credits
Photoroom meters two things: exports (every image you save) and AI credits (generative tools). On Pro, the export cap runs out first for basic AI backgrounds and AI Fashion Models; credit-heavy edits exhaust the credits first.
Pro lists $12.99 a month for 1,000 exports and 8,000 AI credits, prices checked (Photoroom pricing). That makes $0.013 per exported image if every export is used, or $0.0075 at $7.50 a month billed yearly.
Bigger plans cut the cost per export, if every export is used: $0.0117 on Max at $34.99 a month for 3,000 exports. Ultra’s 10,000 exports at $99 a month make $0.0099 on the same basis.
| Plan | Monthly price (USD) | Billed yearly, per month (USD) | Cost per image (USD) | Paid ads | Billed yearly, per month (USD) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pro | $12.99 | $7.50 | $0.013 | Allowed with conditions | $7.50 |
| Max | $34.99 | $20.99 | $0.0117 | Allowed with conditions | $20.99 |
| Ultra | $99 | $82.50 | $0.0099 | Allowed with conditions | $82.50 |

$0.013 per image at list price on Pro at $12.99 a month, if every credit is used. Pro monthly: $12.99 / 1,000 exports = $0.013 per exported image. The export cap binds first: Pro’s 8,000 credits would allow up to 4,000 basic AI Background Studio generations but only 1,000 exports. Pro yearly: $7.50 / 1,000 = $0.0075.
The credit table shows “the maximum generations possible using all your credits on a single feature”. Pro’s 8,000 credits buy 4,000 basic AI Backgrounds Studio images or 1,600 AI Fashion Model images, both above the 1,000-export cap. “Edit with AI” and the Product & Listing AI tools stop at 400 generations.
At the cap, “exports pause until your next billing cycle” unless you upgrade. The FAQ says export limits “apply to visual assets up to 2K resolution” and does not say how 4K exports count. The monthly credit amount “may vary depending on your country or region” (pricing FAQ).
Section 3.2 of the terms lets Photoroom add or change fees “at any time in our sole discretion”, with at least 30 days’ written notice, from the next billing cycle. Section 4.2 renews each plan at the price current at renewal. Every Photoroom plan sits beside other tools’ in the price tracker.
Is Photoroom free?
Yes for personal use: Photoroom’s free plan and free trials carry a personal, non-commercial licence, so neither covers ads. The pricing page lists no free-plan card or limits, only “Start for free”.
Photoroom’s Terms and Conditions grant paid customers a licence “for the Customer’s own internal business purposes”. Free Accounts get one “for your own personal, non commercial purposes” (2.1.b). The same clause adds: “If you do not purchase a subscription for the Services, then you will be considered a Free Account.”
Section 2.6 defines a Free Account as “a free trial or other type of limited offer”, so trials carry the free plan’s licence.
The pricing page offers a free trial on Pro and Max and states no length; 2.6 says any duration “will be specified at sign-up”. The same section requires a payment method and says “Your payment method will not be charged during a free trial”. The trial then converts to a paid plan unless you cancel first.
In 9 of 76 user sources, trials turned straight into annual charges and cancelling was hard, especially on iOS (Trustpilot, App Store).
Refunds read differently in two documents. The pricing FAQ says “We refund customers up to one week after their purchase.” Terms 3.1 say “fees are non-refundable” except as the terms state, and 3.4 rules out refunds for cancelled subscriptions; the terms give no one-week window.
Who owns Photoroom’s AI images under its terms?
Photoroom’s terms do not say who owns images the service generates. Section 2.2.a says: “Customer will own all Customer Content, including, for purposes of clarity, Personal Data and User Content.” Section 1.1 defines User Content as content “submitted, posted, or otherwise made available by Customer”, which covers your uploads.
Neither “generate” nor “output” appears anywhere in the terms of 29 July 2026.
For agencies, section 2.5 bars using Photoroom’s image storage to “store, transfer or distribute content of or on behalf of any third parties”. Section 2.1.b limits paid plans to your “own internal business purposes”, and the terms do not say whether editing a client’s photos counts.
AI Fashion Models is sold on every paid plan, and the terms say nothing about generated people in ads. Under 2.2.c you warrant that you hold “any necessary consents and authorizations from individual persons identified in the User Content”, which covers people in your own uploads.
Our rights matrix marks paid ads “Allowed with conditions” on Pro, Max, Ultra and Enterprise, and “Barred” on the Free plan. On paid plans it marks client work and “Stock avatars in ads”, the row that covers AI Fashion Models, “Unclear”. AI static ad generators sets Photoroom’s ownership terms beside other image tools’.
Photoroom trains on your uploads unless you opt out
Photoroom’s terms (2.2.c) say that by using the service you “expressly authorize Photoroom to use User Content to improve, train and develop” its products. The opt-out sits in the same clause: “You can opt-out of this at any time by changing the settings on your account in the app under Data Control.”
The same clause takes a “perpetual, irrevocable” licence to your uploads “and the likeness contained in the User Content”, for providing the Services. Section 2.1.a separately gives Photoroom anonymised data derived from your uploads “in perpetuity”, and names no opt-out.

What are the alternatives to Photoroom?
Pebblely’s terms say you own generated images, Flair.ai’s say so on a team-sized paid plan, and Claid.ai’s never name them.
Pebblely puts packshots on generated backgrounds and has no free plan. Its terms (14 February 2024) state what Photoroom’s leave out: “You own the images you generate and can use them however you want.”
Flair.ai stages products from a custom model trained on your photos. Its terms say “you own all Assets you create” on a paid plan that fits your team: Pro for one creator, Pro+ for two or more.
Free, Pro and Pro+ images go to the Flair Gallery, where other users “may also use them in personal and commercial settings”. Only Scale images stay private (Flair.ai for product shots).
Claid.ai sells AI photoshoot and on-model images through a web app and an API. Its terms (10 August 2023) say “WE CLAIM NO OWNERSHIP RIGHTS OVER YOUR CONTENT”, meaning content received from you, and never name generated images. Its pricing FAQ answers “Are the images generated or edited subject to any Claid copyright?” with “No”.
