Google launches Playground to make games from text prompts
The Google Labs experiment builds browser games from a description, with Unity Spark integration promised later.
Google Labs launched Playground on Wednesday 7 October 2026, an experimental platform that builds browser games from written descriptions, TechCrunch reports. Users pick a genre such as trivia or racing, or start from scratch, choose 2D or 3D and single or multiplayer, then describe the rules, play and look they want.
Creators can upload their own pictures, which the AI turns into game assets in a matching art style. Finished games run on phones and computers. They can stay private, go out by link, or be published to the Explore gallery, where Google says player ratings and activity decide what gets featured and every published game passes a safety screening. Some genres support leaderboards and multiplayer.
Google says it plans a Unity Spark integration, bringing professional-level mechanics and higher-fidelity 3D through Unity’s runtime. TechCrunch places the launch in a growing field of prompt-built game tools, after Roblox announced its own Build feature in July.
Playground opens to US users aged 18 and over, with other countries planned, TechCrunch reports. Playing is free; making games draws on a weekly token allowance, with higher limits for Google One AI subscribers.
