Kling AI alternatives
Verdict on Kling alternatives
Runway Free allows ads on a free plan; MiniMax H3’s API costs least a second for takes past 8 seconds. On the APIs, H3 at 2K costs $0.13 a second and Kling 3.0 at 1080p with audio $0.168 (checked ).
H3’s API ad rights are unclear, and Runway Free puts a watermark on every video.
For the lowest list cost a second for takes past 8 seconds, on a pay-as-you-go API:
Hailuo AI (MiniMax)
MiniMax H3 at 768p or 2K with native sound, priced by the second; the API’s ad rights are unclear.
For the longest single take, at 30 seconds:
Seedance (ByteDance)
Seedance 2.5 builds a take from up to 50 references. Dreamina’s base terms bar ads; Lumina allows them with a visible watermark.
For a free plan whose terms allow ads, with a watermark:
Runway
125 one-time credits; every Free video carries a Runway watermark. Runway also hosts Kling 3.0.
For Kling 3.0 itself below Kling’s API rate, on a subscription:
Luma (Dream Machine)
49 credits a second at 1080p with audio on Plus, if every credit is used. Kling’s own terms govern those clips.
For daily Flow credits and 8-second clips with audio:
Google Veo
Every Google account gets 50 Flow credits a day; whether Flow output may run in ads is unclear.

Why buyers look for a Kling alternative
The free tier is the first reason. Without a membership, Kling’s terms of service bar commercial use without Kling’s written permission (4.6). They also ask non-members to label outputs with the Kling brand or a “generated by Kling AI” notice (4.5).
A membership lifts the label and watermark duties: members may remove the watermark (7.2), and their commercial use “is not restricted” (paid terms 3.1.2). ToS 3.1(d) and 3.1(e) still ask members for written consent to advertise, and whether 3.1.2 overrides them is unconfirmed. Paid services are non-refundable once activated (6.2.4).
Users add three more reasons, counted from 37 public reviews:
- Credits go fast: failed and rerolled takes are charged and unused credits expire monthly (10 of 37: r/KlingAI_Videos, r/aifilmmaking).
- Charges continue after cancelling, and refunds are refused as virtual goods (8 of 37: r/KlingAI_Videos, r/KlingAI_Videos).
- Paid credits sit behind a busy queue, with waits of up to an hour (5 of 37: r/generativeAI, Trustpilot).
Which Kling alternatives allow ads on a free plan?
One does: Runway’s Free plan allows ads, with a Runway watermark. Every other free route here bars ads, leaves them unclear or does not exist.
| Tool and free route | Paid ads | Watermark and limits | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kling, free or top-ups without a membership | Not allowed without written permission | Kling brand or “generated by Kling AI” label | ToS 4.5 and 4.6, 21 Apr 2026 |
| Runway Free | Allowed | Runway watermark; 125 one-time credits | Terms 4.4, 15 Sep 2026; help centre |
| Hailuo free | Not allowed | Watermarked | Terms of service, 19 Aug 2026 |
| Seedance on Dreamina free, outside the US | Not allowed | Private, non-commercial use (s.1) | Dreamina terms s.6 and s.7, 22 Jan 2026 |
| Google Flow, 50 credits a day | Unclear | Visible watermark is a toggle; SynthID always | Google terms, 30 Jul 2026 |
| Luma | No free plan | Trial credits for internal evaluation only | Terms 3.4(c), 14 May 2026 |

US users of Dreamina fall under separate US terms that no public page carries, so US free use is unclear. Google’s pages also disagree on whether a free account reaches Veo 3.1 at all. Each tool’s row on the rights matrix holds the full clause.
Hailuo: MiniMax H3 at the lowest API rate a second past 8 seconds
Hailuo is MiniMax’s app for H3, launched on 31 July 2026 and pitched at advertising and e-commerce. H3 makes clips up to 15 seconds, Kling 3.0’s limit, at 2K with native stereo sound.
On the MiniMax API, H3 costs $0.08 a second at 768p and $0.13 at 2K. Kling 3.0 with audio lists $0.126 at 720p and $0.168 at 1080p.
The API’s Open Platform Terms (30 March 2026) have no advertising clause and leave all use of output on you (AI Output 4), so the rights matrix marks API ads unclear.
In the app, paid plans allow commercial use of what you make and download while subscribed. Standard at $14.99 a month runs one task at a time (plans page).
In the video above, Curious Refuge works out H3’s cost a second on screen. It then points to artefacts in fine detail, where it rates Seedance higher.
- Best for
- Paid subscribers making 6 to 10-second ad clips who generate and download each clip while the plan is active.
- Not for
- Teams generating many variants at once on the $14.99 Standard plan, which the plan FAQ says runs one task at a time.
Seedance: 30-second single takes from many references
Seedance 2.5, ByteDance’s model, makes 30-second clips from up to 50 reference inputs, twice Kling 3.0’s 15 seconds (Lumina). It reaches buyers through Dreamina, CapCut, BytePlus’s Lumina and resellers.
The route decides the ad rights. Dreamina’s base terms bar using the service “to advertise” unless separate terms permit it, and grant ByteDance and other users a perpetual licence to your assets.
On Lumina, BytePlus allows ads with a visible watermark: Lumina’s, your own “or other means of equivalent effect” (Service Specific Terms, Lumina 3, 30 September 2026). BytePlus does not train its foundation models on your data without consent (General Terms 3.3).
Resellers publish rates. Luma charges 78 credits a second for Seedance 2.5 at 720p, and invideo about 50 credits per 5 seconds at 1080p. Their own terms then apply. Kling vs Seedance compares the two models directly.
- Best for
- Ads built from many reference images with synced dialogue, made on Lumina or a reseller whose terms allow advertising.
- Not for
- Anyone planning to run ads from Dreamina before reading the paid plan’s terms: the base terms bar commercial and advertising use.
Runway: a free plan that allows ads, with a watermark
Runway Free gives 125 one-time credits, and every Free video carries a Runway watermark (help centre). Its terms (4.4) do “not restrict your commercial use of your Outputs” on any plan.
Paid plans remove the watermark. Standard at $15 a month gives 625 credits. Runway hosts Kling 3.0 Pro with audio at 17 credits a second: $0.41 on Standard if every credit is used, above Kling’s own API (pricing page).
The same clause 4.4 lets Runway train its models on your inputs and outputs. Its terms say nothing on which maker’s rules reach a hosted Kling clip. Runway alternatives covers the reverse switch.
- Best for
- Teams that want Runway’s own models and Aleph video-to-video editing next to Kling and Seedance, with no commercial restriction on outputs.
- Not for
- Brands that cannot accept inputs and outputs being used to train Runway’s models, which the terms allow.
Luma: Kling 3.0 itself, below Kling’s API rate on Plus
Luma resells Kling 3.0 next to its own Ray3.2. Plus at $30 a month gives 10,000 credits, and Kling 3.0 with audio at 1080p costs 49 credits a second (pricing page).
That works out at $0.147 a second if every credit is used, below Kling’s own 1080p API rate with audio.
Luma’s terms send third-party clips to “the third party’s terms and conditions and not this Agreement”, so Kling’s rules govern a Kling clip made on Luma. Which Kling terms apply to a reseller’s customer is unclear. Luma has no free plan, and 4.9(b) licenses it to train on paid outputs of its own models.
- Best for
- Paid users who want Ray3.2’s shot control and HDR or EXR output alongside third-party models on one credit balance.
- Not for
- Brands that cannot let Luma train on their outputs: the terms take a perpetual licence over outputs made on a paid plan or outside one (4.9).
Google Veo: 50 free Flow credits a day and 8-second clips
Google Veo gives every Google account 50 Flow credits a day, subscribed or not, with no rollover (Flow help). A Gemini Omni Flash clip at 720p costs 7 to 15 credits, so the daily credits cover a few short clips.
Veo 3.1 takes run 4, 6 or 8 seconds, against Kling’s 15. On Google AI Pro at $19.99 a month, a Veo 3.1 Fast clip costs $0.40 per video on the monthly credits, if every credit is used (plans page).
Google’s terms say it “won’t claim ownership” of generated content, and no clause grants or bars ads, so Flow ads are unclear. Veo on Google Cloud carries clear terms and an IP indemnity. Google Veo vs Kling sets the two side by side.
- Best for
- Hero shots and B-roll up to 8 s with native audio, on a Google AI plan’s Flow credits or the Gemini API.
- Not for
- Single Veo clips longer than 8 s, or buyers who need an IP indemnity outside Google Cloud, whose Workspace entries on the list state no Veo scope.
Which alternatives take an image as the first frame?
Four of the five document image input, and they differ in how many images a clip can hold.
- Seedance 2.5 builds one take from up to 50 references, images included.
- Luma Ray3.2 takes start frames and keyframes, with the motion generated between them.
- Hailuo’s Reference feature takes an image, and its notice bars removing Hailuo’s labels or watermarks.
- Google Flow builds Veo clips from “ingredients”, reference images, though Flow’s models page lists none for Veo 3.1 Quality.
- Runway documents a different input: Aleph edits footage you already have.
Kling holds a character across cuts in one generation, a strength 4 of 37 reviews name (r/aifilmmaking, YouTube). Wan 3.0 on Alibaba Cloud also takes video in, billed at the output rate a second.
Left out, and why
Sora is discontinued: OpenAI shut the API down on 24 September 2026.
PixVerse limits outputs to non-commercial use “unless you obtain separate authorization or a commercial-use license from the relevant rights holders” (terms 4.1).
Vidu gives free users a personal, non-commercial licence (terms section 3), and its pricing FAQ says it is “unable to provide refunds”.
Higgsfield resells Kling with no live per-model rate; Higgsfield alternatives compares those shops. The image and meme apps on aggregator lists make no video model.
For Kling on its own, see the Kling profile; for every video model, the AI video hub.
