HVAC ads, plumber ads and roofing ads on video
HVAC ads come in two kinds, and each needs its own budget and creative. Google’s Local Services Ads put your business at the top of a search and charge per lead. Google says they take no video at all. Video ads on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube reach people before anything breaks, so they know your name when it does.
The first kind catches the homeowner with a dead furnace tonight. The second is where a phone clip or an AI tool earns its keep. Creatify makes a 15-second local ad from your website, or from two job photos if the site cannot be read. That costs about $1.36 on its Standard plan if every credit is used.
The same split holds for plumbers and roofers. This table shows when each kind wins.
| Question | Local Services Ads | Video ads |
|---|---|---|
| Who sees it | Someone searching now, on Search and Maps | Someone scrolling, with no problem yet |
| What you pay for | A valid lead | Views, even when a call is the goal |
| What you supply | Verification, photos, a service area | A video |
| Wins for | Emergencies and repairs | Tune-ups, replacements, your name in town |
| Weakness | You share the page with rivals and cannot explain yourself | Most viewers do not need you this week |

How do Local Services Ads work for HVAC companies?
Local Services Ads charge you when a customer contacts you, and you pass Google’s checks to earn a Google Verified badge.
Local Services Ads
Home services Displaying the Google Verified Badge on your Google Business Profile helps encourage first-time customers to choose your business with confidence.
Only pay when potential customers get in touch through your ads on Local Services Ads, so you can focus on real results for your business.
Google counts an answered call, a text or email, a voicemail and a booking request as leads.
It also counts a missed call in business hours if the caller stayed on for more than 20 seconds. That matters for a small firm: a phone nobody picks up during a job can still cost you a lead.
An HVAC marketing specialist walks through the licence and review checks here. His video predates the move to Performance Max below.
Three changes in 2026 catch out older advice:
- The ads are moving. Google is migrating them into Performance Max campaigns inside Google Ads. The first phase, from August 2026, covers select US home services, HVAC, plumbing and roofing among them. Service-area firms without a storefront follow in late 2026, so a van-based firm in these trades falls in this later group.
- Your bid cap has gone. Manual bidding, where you set the most you pay for a lead, is removed. One Target CPA, an average cost you aim for, covers the campaign.
- Video still has no place. Google says videos, headlines and sitelinks do not apply to these campaigns, though ordinary Performance Max uses them. You supply photos and short callouts.
Photos carry their own trap. Google’s policy has barred AI-edited or AI-generated images from Local Services Ads in New York state and the EU since 2 August 2026. You attest to that on upload. It also refuses photos with a phone number or address in them. Keep real job photos for this account, wherever you work.
Does Meta treat a repair ad as a housing ad?
Meta’s housing list names “housing repairs”, so an HVAC or roofing ad can fall under it. Meta’s wording, reproduced by Jon Loomer, sits beside mortgages and home insurance. It gives no test for a furnace tune-up. Tavatrack, writing for roofers, says a roof repair ad is at risk of being treated as housing, depending on its content.
The category changes how you target. Meta’s rules ban ZIP codes, fix age at 18 to 65+ and remove lookalike audiences. Locations need a radius of 15 miles or more in the US.
Our advice: tick the housing category on repair and roofing ads. Meta’s list names housing repairs, and Tavatrack’s warning means you should build for the 15-mile radius from day one. That radius makes the town’s name in your video’s first words the real targeting.
Tune-up offers and roof replacement ads get the same treatment. Financing brings a second category of its own, as our car dealer guide explains.
When should each trade run video ads?
Timing matters more than polish, because demand arrives with the weather. ENERGY STAR tells homeowners to book a cooling check in spring and a heating check in autumn, before contractors get busy. That is your calendar, in the words homeowners already hear.
| Trade | Trigger | Ad to run | Goal |
|---|---|---|---|
| HVAC | Spring and autumn | Pre-season tune-up | Booked visits in your slow weeks |
| HVAC | First heatwave or cold snap in the forecast | Same-day repair offer | Calls today |
| Plumber | A freeze warning | How to protect pipes, then your number | Calls during and after |
| Plumber | Any week | One finished job, explained | Your name in town |
| Roofer | Spring, before storm season | Roof inspection offer | Booked inspections |
| Roofer | The week after a storm | What to check from the ground | Calls from worried owners |

A heatwave forecast is a creative brief. It tells you the town, the problem and the words people are saying before the phones ring. Make those ads in advance and park them, so one click turns them on.
That habit also fits Creatify’s billing. Its credits expire after two months, but a downloaded video does not. Make the season’s set in one sitting, keep the files and switch them on with the forecast.
Roofers need extra care after a storm. Florida’s statute 489.147 bars offering a rebate or a waived deductible in exchange for a roof inspection or an insurance claim. Fines reach $10,000 per violation.
Under subsection (1)(a), a written or electronic ad inviting a roof insurance claim must carry three notices. One says the customer pays the deductible, and two warn that deductible waivers and false claims are insurance fraud. They need type of at least 12 points, and at least half the size of the largest font.
Keep the insurance promise out of a 15-second video.
What does a 15-second service-area script look like?
A service-area script names the town, states one reason to call and ends on the number. The technician here is real, filmed on a phone beside the van, and everything after the first shot comes from AI. The town and firm are made up, so use your own and say only what is true today.
- 0 to 3 seconds, your technician: standing at the open van, phone at arm’s length. “Millbrook, AC quit in this heat?”
- 3 to 10 seconds, job photos with a voice-over: the outdoor unit, then a finished install. “We’re in Millbrook and Ashby today, and you see the price before we start.”
- 10 to 15 seconds, end card: logo, licence number, phone number. “Call before noon for a visit today.”
The three lines come to 27 words, which fits 15 seconds at a normal speaking pace. Run this ad only from early morning until noon. The end card’s promise then holds, and nobody calls at 4pm for a slot you cannot fill.
Creatify’s home service page can build the middle of this. Give it your website and towns, and it reads your services and phone number and writes the script, with a sample plumber to try. It says it never adds fixtures or changes a finished job. Its ad types include a “Fall tune-up offer”, same-day callouts and finished-job videos.
The customer results on that page are Creatify’s own figures. The closest to your trade is Zerorez, a carpet cleaner, at a 28% lower cost per lead.
How do you make phone calls the goal of a video ad?
You make calls the goal by running a call ad, which puts a call button on the video. On Meta, the phone number must be from the same country as the audience and the audience must be 18 or older.
In Ads Manager, choose Leads as the objective and Calls as the destination, and the ad then optimises for calls. You still pay for views, because the billing event in Meta’s guide stays impressions.
Judge it by answered conversations. Meta reports calls placed plus 20-second and 60-second connected calls. A 60-second call is a much better sign of a real job than a tap on a button. Compare that count with your Local Services leads over the same weeks, and spend more on whichever books more work.
Set the hours in Ads Manager to match the people answering. A heatwave ad at 9pm with nobody on the phone pays for a missed customer.
Should an AI presenter or a real technician front the ad?
A real technician should front the ad, because the viewer is deciding who to let into their home. Users say avatar ads have a recognisable, templated look on a close view (6 of 61 sources: r/PPC, Trustpilot). Your worn van and your uniform are proof of a local firm that an avatar cannot supply.
Creatify offers an AI owner, technician or office lead, and that works best away from the trust moment. A good mix looks like this:
- The hook is real: three seconds of a real person, shot on a phone by anyone in the crew.
- The middle can be AI: job photos with movement, captions and a voice-over.
- Variants are where AI pays: change the town name or the offer, and keep the opening clip.
Blake Bauer, a media buyer, shows the AI half for local service firms. He builds the creative in Creatify from a website, and he promotes it with an affiliate link.
An AI presenter in a New York ad can also bring a label duty. AI ad disclosure rules quotes the state’s synthetic performer law. An AI character called “our lead technician” who does not exist is a claim about your staff, so leave the job title off.
Which states want a licence number in the ad?
Several states want a contractor’s licence number in the ad itself, and video counts. These four show the range. Check your own board, because the rule follows the trade and the state.
| State | Rule | Penalty or exception |
|---|---|---|
| California | All forms of advertising | Civil penalty of $100 to $1,000 for a first offence |
| Florida | Each advertisement, by section 489.119(5)(b) | Notice of noncompliance for a first offence |
| Arizona | Broadcast, internet and billboard ads | Exempt if the ad carries a web address that links directly to a site showing your name and number |
| Texas, air conditioning | Advertising that solicits business | $500 to $1,000 on the sanctions list |
Scroll sideways for all 3 columns
Put the number on your end card as a fixed layer, and check it digit by digit. AI text can come out wrong on screen.
One stock phrase is a problem in itself. The trade’s habit is “licensed, bonded and insured”, and California’s board says the law prevents you mentioning that you are bonded in advertising. Say “licensed and insured” there, if both are true. Creatify’s page gives the same warning: “Only say licensed, insured or certified if it is true where you work”.
What does a home service video cost?
A 15-second home service video costs about $1.36 on Creatify’s Standard plan, if every credit is used, and a small firm needs few of them. The plan lists $15 a month for 55 credits, and a presenter video bills 5 credits per 15 seconds.
A 30-second ad comes to $2.73, if every credit is used. The plan holds 11 short ads a month. Prices were last read on .
Three things can move that figure:
- A restart through the chat agent can bill more: Creatify says its agent uses a variable number of credits that cannot be set upfront. Make the season’s set before the first heatwave, and use the tools in how to use Creatify that show the cost before you render.
- Free exports carry a watermark: the Free plan’s 10 credits cover a first ad to judge, and its terms leave paid use unclear.
- Pausing between seasons takes care, since you may want one month at a time. Users report hard cancellation or later charges (9 of 61 sources: Trustpilot, Trustpilot), so keep proof when you stop.
When is Creatify the wrong pick for a home service business?
Creatify is the wrong pick if your phone already rings from Local Services Ads and your diary is full. More reach would only send people to a voicemail. Spend the time on answering faster, since Google says responsiveness and reviews still count alongside bids.
It is also more than you need for a single ad that runs all year. Three real clips and a free phone editor such as CapCut make a credible local ad. Your own people are in it, and there is nothing to label.
Reach for an AI tool when you want six towns and four offers by next week.
Car dealer ads cover which cars get a video and what it can say.
Connected TV ads for small business covers the minimum spend and file specs for streaming TV.
Real estate ads on video cover Meta’s housing limits and five listing videos.
Questions about HVAC and home service ads
Are Local Services Ads better than Google Ads for HVAC?
They suit repair calls, since you pay per lead. Standard search ads give you more control over wording. Start with Local Services and add search once your diary has room.
Can I put a video in Local Services Ads?
No. Google says videos do not apply to pay-per-lead campaigns. You can upload business photos and short callouts.
Do HVAC Facebook ads need the housing category?
Meta’s list names housing repairs and gives no HVAC test, so tick the category. Build for a 15-mile radius and name the town in the video.
What should roofing ads say after a storm?
Show what an owner can check from the ground and how to reach you. Leave out any promise about insurance payouts or deductibles, which Florida’s statute restricts directly.
