Car dealer ads: which cars get a video

By Alexandre S. Published Last checked

Car dealer ads have a volume problem: your stock changes every week, and a filmed video for each vehicle takes hours you do not have. Video made from listing photos is cheap enough now to cover the whole lot. Creatify needs three photos per car, and 50 cars a month fit on its Pro plan at about $1.10 each.

The harder part sits inside the ad. Once a video names a price or a payment, federal rules decide what else it has to say, and 15 seconds leaves little room. You can also skip a video for much of the lot. Meta builds an ad for every car in a feed at no creative cost.

This table divides each plan’s monthly fee by 50 vehicles, using Creatify’s plan cards. A clip here is a 5-second moving shot made from one photo. Boreal and the presenter land on the same figure because both need Pro, and Boreal uses only 75 of its 280 credits.

Cost per vehicle at 50 videos a month, by Creatify video model
Video per car Smallest plan for 50 cars Cost per car
Three Boreal clips Pro, $55 a month $1.10
15-second Aurora presenter Pro, $55 a month $1.10
Three Seedance 2.0 clips Business, $195 a month $3.90

Should a dealer run inventory ads or video ads?

A dealer should run both, because they do different jobs. Automotive inventory ads pull each car from a data file, called a feed, and Meta generates the ad for you. Meta’s field list names price, mileage and at least one image, and shows no video field. So the feed route runs on photos.

Creative cost None beyond the feed Credits or filming

Start with the feed if you lack one. Meta’s feed guide lets you keep one feed for all vehicles or one per dealership.

Automotive Ads: Create a Catalog

To promote your automotive inventory on Meta, you need to create an automotive catalog with vehicle details.

Your catalog is a structured data file with a list of vehicles to advertise.

Each line contains the information needed to create one vehicle listing.

Meta’s developer guide on what inventory ads need: an automotive catalogue, one line per vehicle. Meta, Automotive Ads: Create a Catalog,

Then spend video where a feed falls short: a new arrival, a rare trim, a car that has sat for 60 days, the trade-in event.

So “a video per vehicle” is less wasteful when you narrow it. Make a video for every new arrival and the ten oldest cars on the lot each week, and let the feed handle the rest.

What does a weekly dealership marketing plan look like?

A dealership marketing plan splits the week: the feed sells the lot, and video pushes the cars that need it. Here is that split across one week.

One week of dealership marketing, with the feed and video split
When Job Why then
Every morning Check the sold list against your live video ads A standalone video stays up until you stop it
Monday Make videos for last week’s arrivals and your oldest stock The weekend shows what sold and what sat
Wednesday Post one phone clip from the service bay or a delivery It shows your own people between the stock videos
Thursday Launch the weekend sale or trade-in video Shoppers see it before they plan Saturday

What can you make from listing photos?

Listing photos give you six usable formats, according to Creatify’s dealership page.

Creatify's car dealership page: Inventory videos for every car on your lot, with six sample vertical ads on a demo lot: walkaround from listing photos, salesperson on one vehicle, just-arrived reel, weekend sale ad, feature close-up cut, trade-in event invite
Creatify’s page for dealerships: paste a listing link or add photos, six sample formats Creatify car dealership video ads page, captured

You can paste a link from your own website or upload the photos with the price and a phone number. It warns that large marketplace pages sometimes block the agent, and it mentions no VIN or feed input.

  • Walkaround: the camera moves across your front and rear three-quarter shots.
  • Just-arrived reel: a short reveal for stock that landed this week.
  • Feature close-up: one detail from the interior photos, such as a third row.
  • Salesperson on one vehicle: you or an AI presenter talks through the car.
  • Weekend sale ad: a sale price and one photo.
  • Trade-in event invite: the date and terms, with a presenter.

Each comes in 9:16 for Reels, 1:1 for feeds and 16:9 for YouTube and your site. The customer results on that page are Creatify’s own figures, and none comes from a dealership.

The video below shows the paste-a-link step on a product page, with no car in it. A vehicle listing goes through the same step.

A creator pastes a product URL into Creatify and walks through the UGC ad it returns Video: How to Turn a Product URL Into an AI UGC Ad With Creatify, Akalanka Ekanayake on YouTube, .

Creatify says the agent keeps the paint, wheels and trim and adds no badges. Check each car against its listing: users report outputs that miss the brief, wrong product details included (17 of 61 sources: Trustpilot, Trustpilot). A wrong trim on screen is a false claim about that car.

What does the FTC require of a price in a car ad?

The FTC requires an advertised price to be one a buyer can pay, with every condition stated where people notice it. Its power comes from the FTC Act’s general ban on misleading ads, and staff FAQs from September 2026 apply that ban to car prices.

Automobile Industry Pricing Transparency: FAQs

That is why the FTC Act requires that the advertised price be the actual price any consumer can walk in and pay.

On webpages that state any amount a consumer may pay, the actual price must be listed as the most prominent amount.

FTC staff on a car ad’s price: the advertised price is the one any buyer can walk in and pay, and it is the most prominent amount. Federal Trade Commission, Automobile Industry Pricing Transparency: FAQs,

The dealer-specific CARS Rule never took effect. A court vacated it in January 2025, and the FTC withdrew it on 12 February 2026. The cases below predate that rule, so its end leaves them standing.

The FTC’s dealer cases from 2015 show where ads go wrong:

  • Headline prices that leave out fees: the FTC alleged one Florida dealer’s $99 was a minimum bid, with substantial mandatory fees on top.
  • Zero claims: the FTC alleged a California dealer’s zero-down and 0% APR ads still needed a down payment, and the rate ran well above 0%.
  • Hidden conditions: the FTC alleged an Alabama dealer’s prices needed up to $3,000 down, or applied only to recent graduates.
  • Fine print: the FTC says people must be able to notice and understand a disclosure. A fast crawl at the bottom of a phone screen is a poor bet.

State law can go further, and New York’s is the clearest example. Its attorney general’s guidelines say the advertised price may leave out only registration and title fees and taxes, with a statement beside it saying so.

Creatify’s default wording shows why that matters. Its page says the agent adds the price with “plus tax, title and fees”. In New York, that last word is too broad. A fee you charge every buyer belongs inside the number. Edit the line before you export.

Which finance words change what a car ad must say?

Four kinds of finance detail set off extra disclosures in a car ad. Regulation Z, the federal rule on credit ads, calls them triggering terms. They are the down payment, the number of payments or repayment period, the amount of any payment and the amount of any finance charge.

Use one and the ad must also state the down payment, the full repayment terms and the rate as an “annual percentage rate”.

Lease ads have their own rule, the Consumer Leasing Act and Regulation M, set out in the FTC’s lease guide. A payment figure or an amount due at signing has a cost there too. You must say it is a lease, then state the total due at signing and the scheduled payments.

Lines that trigger disclosures, and a safer line for a 15-second ad
Line in the ad What it sets off Safer line
A monthly payment figure Down payment, full terms, APR Your cash price, then “ask about financing”
“72 months available” The same three “Financing available”
A low figure down The same three Leave it out
A lease payment Lease status, due at signing, payment schedule Move it to a longer video or the listing page

Scroll sideways for all 3 columns

A 15-second vertical ad has no room for that block, so keep payments out of it. Creatify’s page says the agent adds no payment, rate, down-payment or warranty claims by itself. Mistakes arrive when someone asks for one in the chat.

For an electronic ad that holds a table of the terms, comment 24(e)-4 of Regulation Z accepts a link. It must take the viewer straight to where the table begins, and the table must cover a representative sample of credit amounts.

The comment’s example is a website ad, so this helps a finance page more than a video. In the video itself, leave the numbers out.

When does a car ad fall under Meta’s restricted categories?

A car ad falls under Meta’s restricted rules when it promotes credit or another financial product. Meta’s list, as Jon Loomer reproduces it, names auto loans and long-term financing under financial products and services. Creatify’s page says the same of credit or financing ads.

Special Ad Categories

In October 2024, Meta introduced a new input called FINANCIAL_PRODUCTS_SERVICES. This input will replace the CREDIT input as of January 14, 2025.

Businesses running housing, employment, or financial products and services ads must comply with audience restrictions.

Meta on the financial products and services category and its audience restrictions, for dealer ads that carry a credit offer. Meta, Special Ad Categories,

Choosing that category changes the campaign. Meta’s rules fix age at 18 to 65+, include all genders, drop ZIP codes and lookalikes, and need a 15-mile radius in the US. Car buyers travel, so a 15-mile radius costs you less than it would a corner shop.

The practical answer is to split your campaigns. Plain price and stock videos stay in ordinary campaigns. Finance offers and “bad credit welcome” videos go in their own campaign under the category, with their disclosures. Meta’s list does not name leases and ends in “etc.”, so put lease specials there too.

What happens when the car in the video sells?

The ad keeps running until you stop it. A feed drops a sold car once its availability field changes. A standalone video keeps sending people to a car you no longer have.

New York’s guidelines say an ad must state when an advertised car is not in stock. They also list refusing to sell an advertised car among the signs of bait advertising.

Name each video after its stock number. Then check the day’s sold list against your live ads every morning. It also stops you paying for clicks on a sold car.

Can an AI salesperson present the car?

Yes, as long as it never pretends to be a customer. The FTC’s review rule, in effect since 21 October 2024, has no blanket ban on AI avatars. An avatar reading out the car’s features is a presenter.

An avatar saying “I bought my truck here” is a fake testimonial, and the rule reaches that. AI UGC legal rules sets out the difference clause by clause.

What do the sums leave out?

The table at the top uses Creatify’s plan cards. A presenter video bills 5 credits per 15 seconds, rounded up.

Creatify's help centre: Video Ad, Avatar Video and AI Shorts cost 5 credits per 15 seconds of video, rounded up
Creatify’s help centre: video ads bill 5 credits per 15 seconds, rounded up Creatify help centre, Credit Usage Billing and Validity, captured

Three things move those numbers. Prices were last read on .

  • Agent runs vary: the dealership page works through its agent, and Creatify’s credit article says agent credit use cannot be known upfront. Run five cars and check your balance before you plan the month. Users name credits running out faster than expected (15 of 61 sources: Trustpilot, r/FacebookAds).
  • Pro leaves little room for retries: fifty presenter videos use 250 of its 280 credits.
  • Plans cap the team: Pro gives two seats and two brand spaces, and a brand space is a separate set of logos and assets. A three-rooftop group needs Max at $95 a month or more.

Standard at $15 a month covers 36 Boreal cars or 11 presenter videos a month, which suits a small independent lot. Yearly billing brings Pro down to about $0.76 per car at the same volume.

When is Creatify the wrong pick for a dealership?

Creatify is the wrong pick when you sell hundreds of cars a month and want video on every listing page. Its dealership page shows no VIN or feed input, so each video starts by hand.

Tools built for dealers suit that better. Phyron turns a dealer’s photos and vehicle data into video. Its site publishes no price and offers a demo, and G2’s listing says the same, so budget for a sales call.

A developer on your team has a third route. Creatify’s API lists $99 a month for 500 credits, at 5 credits per 30 seconds of URL to Video, so a script can feed it your stock. That is 100 videos of up to 30 seconds a month, about $0.99 each if every credit is used.

It also falls short on the videos that build trust. Users say avatar ads have a recognisable, templated look on a close view (6 of 61 sources: r/FacebookAds, r/PPC). So film your service manager, or a real delivery, on a phone and let AI carry the volume.

Questions about car dealer ads

What makes the best car dealer ads?

A specific car, a real price and one reason to visit this week. A shopper looking for that car recognises it at once, and a slogan gives them nothing to act on.

Do car dealer Facebook ads need a special ad category?

Only when they promote financial products, such as auto loans or long-term financing. Meta’s list does not name leases, so keep lease specials in that campaign too. Ads showing a car and a cash price stay in ordinary campaigns.

Can a dealership use a car’s listing photos in an AI video?

Yes, if you hold the rights to them. Manufacturer press photos and photos from another dealer are a different matter, so use your own lot shots.
