DoorDash counts only hundreds of orders from AI shopping agents

DoorDash and Amazon told investors that outside AI agents barely move sales yet, and DoorDash said it could one day advertise inside them.

DoorDash completes about 3 million deliveries a day, by its 2025 annual report. Against that, AI agents that shop on a person’s behalf, such as Muse from Meta, Instinct and Fo, have sent it several hundred orders in total, DoorDash told analysts on 29 October 2026, TechCrunch reports. Its own app still takes almost every order. Chief executive Tony Xu sees a possible opening later for DoorDash to advertise inside those agents.

Amazon’s Andy Jassy went further the same day. Amazon is pushing its own assistant, Alexa for Shopping, and blocked Muse from its store in September. Outside agents win few buyers, Jassy told analysts, because the experience is “still not great, nor more convenient” than shopping with a retailer directly, Fortune reports. He also ruled them out as the cause of Amazon’s weaker third-quarter ad sales.

Assistants already carry ads. Of the assistant plans in our database, only ChatGPT’s Go plan says it may include ads, according to the archived OpenAI pricing page of 5 September 2026 that our ChatGPT entry cites; no Claude or Gemini plan does.

So for now the agent-ad idea DoorDash raised rests on a few hundred orders, while ChatGPT already sells ad space inside an assistant.
